Former Dolphin Pro Bowl Player Signs With Bills

The Miami Dolphins are 6-8, and after Monday’s 28-15 loss in Pittsburgh they have officially been eliminated from playoff contention. The team got into a rhythm after their 2-7 start and won four straight games. Due to their start of the year, the team put themselves in a hole they failed to climb out of.

As a result of their poor start, the Dolphins became sellers at the trade deadline. At the time, ESPN analyst Benjamin Solak said of Miami, “There is no team who should be bigger sellers of talent right now than Miami. 28th in 2026 cap space. Biggest contracts need offloading. Roster requires multiple cycles of unspooling because it’s been so min-maxed to fit McDaniel and Tua.” Their biggest move at the trade deadline was sending outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips to Philadelphia, in exchange for a third-round pick.

Dolphins Make Roster Move

Now, with the team mathematically eliminated, they have made additional moves. On Wednesday, the Miami Dolphins released veteran pass-rusher Matthew Judon. Judon arrived in Miami this offseason after he signed a one-year deal with the team. His accolades included 72 career sacks and four Pro Bowl selections.

Judon struggled with the Dolphins as he failed to register a sack in any of his 13 games with the team. Additionally, he had only one tackle for loss. The Dolphins shifted their focus to Judon in the offseason, after missing out on free-agent Joey Bosa, who decided to sign with the Bills. Now, Judon will join Bosa in Buffalo as the Bills signed Judon to their practice squad. The veteran pass-rusher will now play for his third AFC East team as he intends to help their playoff push.

Miami will now shift Judon’s snaps to some of their younger players. 2024 first-round pick Chop Robinson is experiencing a sophomore slump as his sack total has diminished from 6 to 3.5 this season. He will have more opportunities now with Judon no longer on the roster.

Upcoming Schedule For the Dolphins

The Dolphins defense without Judon will now face off against an explosive Bengals offense. Despite their 4-10 record, Cincinnati has Joe Burrow back at the position and they will possibly also have Tee Higgins back in the lineup. The last time Burrow and Higgins were in the lineup, the Bengals scored 34 points in the Buffalo snow.

The two teams last played on Thursday Night Football in 2022, a game the Dolphins lost 27–15, in which quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion and was carted off the field. Now, Tagovailoa won’t be on the field as the Dolphins opted to bench him in favor of seventh-round rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Ewers has not started a game this season, but did come off the bench against the Browns this season as the game was out of hand for Miami. He went 5-for-8 with 53 passing yards in limited action. In college, Ewers led the Texas Longhorns to a 13-3 record as he threw for an SEC-leading 31 touchdowns in his junior season.
