Remember Richie Incognito? When he was with the Miami Dolphins there was never a dull moment. Who can forget the great fun he had with teammate Jonathan Martin and the whole bullying incident? More on that later.
Anyway, Incognito went on “The Arena Show” on Wednesday and gave his thoughts on the Dolphins 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Specifically, he was quite blunt about quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
“Tua is ass,” Incognito said. “He looks bad. I mean, he is ass. He looks bad.”
You’ll remember that Tua was 14-23 passing for 114 yards with a garbage-time touchdown pass to De’Von Achane, two interceptions and a fumble lost. He was brutal to the point where a Colts defender said he was in “panic mode.”
Richie Incognito wants the Tua from 2023 back
Incognito, who spent four of his 13 NFL seasons with the Dolphins, is disappointed in the Dolphins offense as a whole. They didn’t look for Tyreek Hill (four catches for 48 yards) deep on Sunday and they didn’t get Jaylen Waddle (four catches for 30 yards) involved much either.
“They’re running all these crazy offensive plays and nothing seems to work,” Incognito said.
Incognito, like most everyone else that follows the Dolphins, still remembers what Tua was like in 2023, when he completed 69.3% of his passes for 4,624 yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He ended the season with a passer rating of 101.1.
“Tua hasn’t been able to live up to half that,” Incognito said. “When Tua proves he can do it in 2023, with the same offensive coordinator, this genius, McDaniel and he doesn’t do it now, it stinks even more.”
Head coach Mike McDaniel kind of said the same thing, but with a little bit different wording.
“I think I saw quarterback play that was less than to be desired,” McDaniel said Wednesday. “Which Tua absolutely knows … he’s the captain and the franchise quarterback, and everybody kind of fell victim to something similar. I also know that he’s very much, like most quarterbacks, to be honest, where you’re putting a lot of work into something and [it’s] your first time doing it for a collective four quarters in months, you’re not at your best.”
Richie Incognito had a little bullying incident back in the day
Just in case you don’t remember Incognito, he was involved in a bullying incident some 12 years ago with fellow offensive lineman Jonathan Martin. Reports then indicated that there were times when Martin even feared for his safety, but years later Martin came out and said he never felt like he was bullied.
It was quite the saga and following Martin’s admission in February of this year, Incognito went off.
“He couldn’t cut it in the NFL so he quit and his mom blamed me,” Incognito posted on X. “Legacy media pushed this narrative long and far. Too bad it was all a lie! They lied to protect his money. He quit… the team had every right to claw back that money. His mom started the bullying narrative with @espn @AdamSchefter so that @MiamiDolphins wouldn’t go after his signing bonus!”
So there’s that. But, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk said that regardless of what Martin says now, there was evidence found by NFL investigator Ted Wells that something bad actually happened.
“Wells found that Incognito and others repeatedly harassed Martin,” Florio wrote. “That the harassment contributed to Jonathan Martin’s pre-existing mental-health issues. That the harassment was consistent with workplace bullying. That, to the extent the conduct was a reflection of the prevailing culture among the Dolphins’ offensive linemen (and potentially if not likely in other NFL locker rooms), it does not excuse the behavior.”
Incognito talking tough about Tua is nothing new for him. If you read any of the Wells report or any of the stories from back then, it seems like this is how he speaks all the time. But, clearly Tua is in his crosshairs.
