Former Green Bay Packers WR Cut By Longtime NFC North Rival

With cut day quickly approaching, one of the Green Bay Packers longtime rivals has made their first decision. Cuts will be announced left and right ahead of the deadline on Tuesday, August 26.

At 27-years-old, this receiver was drafted No. 258 overall by the Packers in 2022. Things seemed on the rise when he scored a touchdown against an AFC powerhouse in his rookie season. Ultimately, things didn’t work out in Green Bay or on their divisional rival.

Samori Toure Cut by the Chicago Bears

Adam Schefter broke the news that Samori Toure was released by the Chicago Bears. The Bears went 2-0-1 featuring huge wins over the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs in the preseason. Oddly enough, Toure’s lone NFL touchdown came against the Bills in 2023.

Going from Aaron Rodgers to Caleb Williams is quite the difference in QB’s. With all eyes glued to the 2024 No. 1 overall pick, the Bears are looking to prove that those preseason wins weren’t a fluke.

Three targets came Toure’s way in their preseason draw against the Miami Dolphins. He was able to catch one pass, good for the Bears longest completion of the day, 26 yards. From there, he was one of four Bears receivers with 40+ yards against the Bills. Toure continued to scorch the Bills defense as he hauled in three catches for 48 yards.

Ultimately, things didn’t go his way in the preseason finale. Toure saw just one target as he finished the day with -2 yards. Things didn’t end on a high note, but his prior two weeks performance still didn’t do enough to make the Bears roster.

At this point, Ben Johnson is doing everything he can to establish a new Bears receiving core. For whatever reason, he didn’t see Toure as part of the vision. ESPN had him listed as WR3 behind Luther Burden III and Miles Boykin.

Bears Fans React to the Release as Packers Speculate a Potential Reunion

The Bears vs. Packers rivalry will go down as one of the best in NFL history. Its history speaks for itself as Chicago was finally able to get one over on their longtime rival last season. Regardless, one Bears fan was thrilled by the move, “We don’t want any bum Packers anyways.”

“Packers legend” one fan joked as a Bears fan commented, “What a name.” Many flooded Schefter’s post with comments asking, “Who?”

A Packers fan wrote, “Imagine sucking so bad you get cut by the Bears” as it’s clear the rivalry is still in full swing. Even though Green Bay is opening their season against Detroit, every Packers and Bears fan still has Weeks 14 and 16 circled on their calendar.

“Yeah, I don’t think he showed enough to stay on the team,” someone commented. Another fan replied, “Their leftovers have never worked out for us it’s nice to see a front office realize that for once.”

At this point, it’s hard to imagine a reunion in Green Bay. The Packers have their own receiving core to figure out. As it stands, names like Malik Heath and Mecole Hardman remain on the bubble. Should Toure be signed, he would be nothing more than a practice squad addition.
