So, even though the upcoming 2025-26 season is in the forefront of everyone’s mind, it’s secondary to personal stuff. Now, one former Detroit Lions player is in the news for going through a very high-profile breakup.
It’s bad enough going through a breakup when you’re not in the public eye, but going through relationship drama when everyone is watching just adds another layer to it. So, we’re sending this guy our well-wishes and hope that the world moves on soon.
Ex-Detroit Lions Player is a Single Man Again

Detroit rapper Kash Doll and former Detroit Lions defensive star Za’Darius Smith have officially split, and they’ve both confirmed the breakup on their social media accounts. Kash Doll posted about the news on X, and Smith shared the word “single” on Instagram along with an image of a walking many emoji and door.
“Rapper Kash Doll has officially confirmed her breakup with NFL defensive star Za’Darius Smith, sharing the news on social media this weekend,” Vocal Media reported. “The Detroit-born artist took to X (formerly Twitter) on August 10, 2025, to announce that after trying to make things work, they simply ‘can’t see eye to eye’ and respectfully decided to part ways.”
According to Vocal Media, the post read, “At this point of my life I just need to be single… Za’Darius is a great guy but we can’t see eye to eye and with all due respect we decided to part ways ❤️.” She added, “I’m giving the internet a break also so I’m done with y’all too right now.”
Kash Doll and Za’Darius Smith Relationship Timeline
Kash Doll and Smith went publish just a few months ago, and when they did, they made a big splash. Smith is currently a free agent, and the fact that he’s been dating a Detroit rapper seemed to make it even more enticing for him to return to Detroit to play football next season. The couple was embraced by fans, but it appears it just wasn’t working behind the scenes.
When it comes to Smith and the Lions, he’s one of the top players still available in the edge rusher position. However, when the season starts and players start getting injured, chances are he’ll land a gig quickly. Previously, Smith said he definitely wanted to come back to Detroit.
“We both know where I want to be,” Smith told Tyler Dragon of USA Today Sports in June when asked about his situation with the Lions and where he wanted to play. “Hopefully I can get back to Detroit because the coaching staff and everybody in the front office are great. When I’m there, I feel like a leader and like I can influence the young guys and do great things. Hopefully, I can get back to where I want to be in Detroit.”
Let’s hope the breakup doesn’t make Smith want to find a gig outside of Detroit.
