Former Premier League star, 37, comes out of retirement to join seventh-tier side part-owned by his old team-mate

FORMER Premier League star Charlie Daniels has come out of retirement to sign for seventh-tier side Westfield.

The 37-year-old defender made more than 250 appearances for Bournemouth and played for the Cherries in the Prem across five seasons.

Now Daniels has joined Sussex outfit Westfield, who are part-owned by ex-Bournemouth team-mate Steve Cook.

Non-league Westfield posted on X: “We are excited to announce the signing of Bournemouth legend Charlie Daniels.

“His experience and ability will be a tremendous asset to Westfield FC in our hunt for promotion in the 24/25 season.

“Welcome to the club, @chazdaniels13.”

Westfield fans were quick to comment, with one saying: “Absolutely mental signing!”

Another said: “Very unfair on the opposition! Absolutely top quality player!!!”

And another said: “Great addition, fellas.”

One remarked: “Wow has to be a joke surely. What a signing had to look to see if it was April 1.”

Westfield play in the Mid Sussex Premier Division.

Daniels started his career in the youth team at Tottenham before he had spells at Chesterfield, Leyton Orient and Gillingham.

The left-back joined Bournemouth on loan in 2011, turned the move into a permanent one and remained there until 2020.

During that time, Daniels helped the south coast club win promotion to the Prem in 2015 alongside Cook, who still plays for QPR, and he will be sponsored by his close pal.

After leaving the Vitality Stadium, Daniels turned out for Shrewsbury Town, Portsmouth and Colchester United.

Daniels retired in 2022 and is also under-21 boss at Championship outfit Watford.
