Former Rams QB Jared Goff Claps Back With Clear Message After Beating Ravens

Former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff heard all of the naysaying about him and the Detroit Lions as the team scuffled their way to a 27-13 loss in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.

He does not plan on forgetting about it.

Since that contest, the Lions are 2-0, averaging 45 points per game. Goff is feeling every bit of confidence he had at their peak last season.

Goff entered the season under a watchful eye, as Lions head coach Dan Campbell made it clear they had to protect the ball better, even including Goff in that discussion. However, Goff has rewarded his coach’s faith in him.

The Lions’ recent success has Goff reminding everyone that he has kept receipts.

“I don’t know if I’m looking to crush any narratives. I think it’s fun. It’s fun to go on the road against a really good team and go win that game,” Goff said on 97.1 The Ticket’s “Karsch and Anderson” on September 23. “I think back two weeks ago, the sky was falling. I won’t forget about that, everyone that thought we were done. And certainly we’ll remember that for the rest of the year and use it as a little motivation.”

Goff has completed 77.9% of his passes for 761 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 1 interception this season. But the Lions’ record is the most important result of all.

Jared Goff Gets Strong Endorsement Amid Hot Start

Goff, who led the Rams to the Super Bowl in 2018, leads the league in completion percentage, is tied for second in touchdown passes, ranks fourth in touchdown rate, and seventh in passing yards through three weeks.

Campbell spoke very highly of Goff, a four-time Pro Bowler, amid the QB’s strong start to the regular season.

“Goff had a very efficient game. There’s a number of things people don’t have no idea that he did in that game that was big time, man. I’m talking about high-level quarterback play, high-level the function of from the play in the huddle, all the different audible system that we have that he can get into per play, per look,” Campbell said during his appearance on 97.1 on “Costa and Jansen” on September 24.

“In the moment, crowd noise, everything, critical moments, and just some of the little nuances of the position that he did, get everybody set up, right? Make sure we’re all on point. It was just – I’m telling you, the guy is playing at a very high level. And you talk about running the quarterback position. I mean, he’s – nobody’s playing it better than him right now.”

Jared Goff Could Be Problem for Rams

The Rams could face a highly effective and highly motivated Goff in a few weeks when the Lions visit LA in Week 15.

A lot can and will have changed by then. Still, Goff is notably 1-1 against the teams that selected him No. 1 overall in the 2016 draft. He has completed 62.5% of his passes for 485 yards, 2 TDs, and 3 INTs in those games.

Rams (and ex-Lions) QB Matthew Stafford has a 651-4-1 line on 68.9% completion in them.

The Rams rank sixth in passing defense and 13th against the run. That could inspire the Lions to lean on their fourth-ranked rushing attack rather than force the situation with Goff.
