Former Seahawks OC Facing WR Issues with New Team

The Seattle Seahawks’ offense has been rolling the past few weeks. The offense has put up over 30 points in each of the last two weeks, and Jaxson Smith-Njigba is emerging as a superstar wide receiver. Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is putting quarterback Sam Darnold and the rest of the offense in positions to succeed. However, a familiar face to Seahawks fans is drawing criticism for doing the opposite for his new team.

Shane Waldron was the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator from 202 to -2023. In Waldron’s three seasons in Seattle, he never won more than nine games and made the playoffs one time, where the team lost in the wildcard round.

After a brief stint as the Chicago Bears’ offensive coordinator, Waldron is now the passing game coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and early in the season, he is already being questioned

Jaguars WRs Struggling

While the Seahawks’ passing game and wide receivers have flourished over the last few weeks, the Jaguars have struggled to get their receivers going.

Brian Thomas Jr., who had an excellent rookie campaign last season, is in the midst of a sophomore slump. Thomas has yet to have a 60-yard receiving game this season or score a receiving touchdown. Heisman trophy winner Travis Hunter has struggled to stand out as well. Hunter has 76 receiving yards on 10 catches.

Billy Hyen of The Sporting News, in their September 23 article, shared a few statistics from football analyst Warren Sharp that highlighted how Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars’ passing offense have been struggling.

“Out of 270 qualifying QBs since 2020, Jaguars receivers through Week 3 have: No. 1 highest drop rate, No. 1 highest rate of total receiver error,Sharp said.32% of Lawrence incompletions are on his receivers!”

Waldron is not the offensive coordinator, but he is in charge of the pass game, and so far in Jacksonville, it has left a lot to be desired.

Klint Kubiak Has Players Bought In

Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is in his first year with the team, and his impact on the offense is already evident.

Quarterback Sam Darnold has been completing 70% of his passes, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba is second in both yards per game and receptions. Cooper Kupp, the former NFL Offensive Player of the Year, came to Seattle to revive his career after several injury-plagued seasons, and he has been pleased with Kubiak.

Kupp spoke with Michael Shawn-Dugar of The Athletic in his September 24 article about how Kubiak has the Seahawks’ offense running efficiently.

“Guys have made plays when it’s come up,Kupp said.Klint has done a good job activating plays against some coverages that allow the ball to go over the top. We’ve had some opportunities where we’re having underneath throws and being able to run for explosives.”

Kupp credits Kubiak’s scheme with allowing the players to process quickly.

There’s a mixture of both of those things. It comes back to guys just playing fast and decisive,Kupp said.

Seahawks fans know better than almost any other fan base about theShane Waldron Experience, and now they seem content to be done with Waldron and are enjoying Kubiak’s take on how to run an offense.
