Former Minnesota Vikings cornerback and draft pick Kris Boyd has been shot and remains in critical condition following an incident in New York City early Sunday morning.
Details continue to emerge around the serious situation.
Boyd was a seventh-round selection in the 2019 draft, taken by the Vikings with the No. 217 overall pick. He spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Vikings after playing his college ball at Texas.

Boyd, who left the Vikings as a free agent in 2023, is now a member of the New York Jets. He is on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. The Jets were inactive on Sunday after losing to the New England Patriots on “Thursday Night Football.”
“New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot and critically wounded in Midtown early Sunday morning and is now clinging to life at Bellevue Hospital, police and sources said,” the New York Post’s Joe Marino, Jorge Fitz-Gibbon, and Kirsten Fleming wrote on November 16. “Boyd was shot in the abdomen outside Sei Less restaurant after a dispute turned violent, with the gunmen firing two shots, law enforcement sources told The Post.”
According to the New York Post, police said the shooting occurred “on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue.” It happened “shortly after 2 a.m.” ET.
Police on the scene did not immediately identify Boyd as the victim.
“The sources said the shooter fled the scene in a BMW X8 SUV — but witnesses were uncooperative with cops,” Fitz-Gibbon, Fleming, and Marino wrote. “Boyd lapsed in and out of consciousness before he was rushed to the hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.”
Boyd, 29, has logged 105 total tackles, 5 fumble recoveries, 3 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles during his career.
“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” a Jets spokesperson said, per CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, who reported the comments in a post on X on November 16.

Boyd appeared in 58 games with the Vikings, starting six of them. He finished his tenure with 95 total tackles, 4 fumble recoveries, 3 pass deflections, and 2 forced fumbles. His time in Minnesota included friction with former head coach Mike Zimmer.
Boyd said Zimmer and his staff “walked around like their a******* were tight,” on the “All Things Covered” podcast in June 2022.
Zimmer clapped back.
“Kris Boyd? He says something about me?” Zimmer told the Minnesota Star Tribune’s Mark Craig in an interview published in August 2024. “I’m like, ‘Dude, you had more special teams penalties than anyone I can remember.’”

Boyd, who also spent part of the 2023 season with the Arizona Cardinals and one-plus seasons with the Houston Texans, had a polarized relationship with Vikings fans.
He called them “ungrateful” in 2022 for not appreciating the team’s 3-1 start.
The Vikings won 13 games that season, which was Boyd’s last in Minnesota. However, upon his exit, Boyd shared a heartfelt message of appreciation for Vikings fans. This was as he prepared to enter free agency and sign with Arizona.
