It was an important college football offseason for LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and girlfriend Ella Springfield. The happy couple got engaged less than two months before the start of the college football season.
Springfield took to Instagram announcing the major news that she will be Nussmeier’s future wife while posting engagement photos. From the social media post, it looks like Nussmeier proposed in Grove, Oklahoma.
“Forever and always, yes yes yes,” Springfield noted in a July 20, 2025, Instagram post. “’I have found the one whom my soul loves.’ -Song of Solomon 3:4.”
Here’s what you need to know about Nussmeier’s fiancee.
Garrett Nussmeier & Girlfriend Ella Springfield Were Both LSU Students
The couple met as students at LSU, and Springfield recently graduated with a marketing degree, per College Football Network. Despite being a touted NFL draft prospect, Nussmeier opted to return to Baton Rouge for another season before turning pro.
“Endlessly thankful for the memories, the friendships, and the love that only LSU could give,” Springfield noted in a June 10, Instagram message.
Back in December, Springfield posted a photo alongside Nussmeier on the field after an LSU game. Nussmeier’s fiancee showed love to her favorite quarterback and LSU.
“Came for the player, stayed for the lifelong memories and friendships made. #foreverlsu,” Springfield said in the December 6, Instagram post.
QB Garrett Nussmeier on Returning to LSU: ‘I Didn’t Want to Watch Anybody Else Be the Guy That Leads LSU to a National Championship’
On the field, Nussmeier has LSU entering the college football season as one of the top contenders, both in the SEC and national title picture. Nussmeier revealed that one of the major reasons for his return to LSU instead of entering the NFL draft was the push to win a national championship.
“I didn’t want to watch anybody else be the guy that leads LSU to a national championship,” Nussmeier told SEC Network during a July interview, per CBS Sports. “LSU means the world to me. Louisiana means the world to me. Also, my faith helped me so much throughout that decision process. I feel like it was the same reason why I stayed when everybody was trying to tell me to leave and transfer.
“God brought me to LSU for a reason. I always wanted to win a national championship here. It wasn’t about winning a Heisman or being the first overall pick. It was just about winning championships, so having that opportunity, I just couldn’t pass it up.”
Garrett Nussmeier Is Widely Projected To Be a 1st Round Pick in the Early 2026 NFL Mock Drafts
No word yet on when Nussmeier and Springfield will get married as the couple has not publicly revealed a wedding date. Something tells us it will not be during football season.
The couple will be preparing to live in a new city following the college football season. Nussmeier enters the college football season as a potential first-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
ESPN’s Field Yates has the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Nussmeier with the No. 16 pick in his early NFL mock draft.
“Nussmeier — the son of Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier — is like a point guard on the field, playing with elite processing skills and very good accuracy,” Yates wrote in his August 20, mock draft. “He lacks dynamic athleticism and has just solid arm strength, but he is still able to deliver the ball on time and to spots where his receivers can create after the catch.
“Nussmeier — who is dealing with patellar tendinitis — threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns last season at LSU.”
