But Die Mannschaft have found things far less comfortable at their Bavarian base, with a plague of mozzies tormenting the squad.

And veteran keeper Manuel Neuer has had to swap goal nets for mosquito nets to keep the pests at bay.

Bayern Munich star Neuer, 38, said: “We need to make sure that the mosquito nets are always pulled shut when we are watching games on TV by the swimming pool.”

Boss Nagelsmann said: “We have an abnormal plague of mosquitos.  We need to take care that some wind is blowing, in order that there aren’t too many mosquitos around.

“If that isn’t the case, we have to go inside into the office.”

Striker Maximilian Beier, 21, added: “I have already been stung two or three times.

“But if the mosquitoes are the biggest problem that we have, that is OK.”

A combination of floods in southern Germany and unseasonal heat has sparked the rise of the insects.

Expert Martin Geier said: “They are very aggressive, they appear in large numbers, and they sting during the daytime as well as at night.”

This is not the first time the German side has been targeted by insects during the Euros, with bees invading the Stuttgart Arena on the eve of their clash with Hungary last week.

Firefighters wearing specialist protective gear had to remove the creatures after they built a nest in a pitchside advertising board.
