Giants’ Abdul Carter, Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Exchange Messages Amid Preseason

You rarely see star players from the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys compliment one another publicly on social media, but that’s exactly what we saw from edge rushers Abdul Carter and Micah Parsons after preseason Week 1 on Sunday evening.

Following Carter’s impressive debut against the Buffalo Bills, Parsons reposted a clip of the rookie pass rusher, commenting: “They asked me if Abdul could be another great ! I told them he could be the best one!”

To which Carter then responded: “My brudda🦾 can’t wait to see you get paid what you EARNED!!@MicahhParsons11”

Carter and Parsons aren’t the typical rivals. For starters, both first made a name for themselves at Penn State, and the Giants’ rookie first-rounder was immediately likened to Parsons once he declared for the NFL draft.

The Cowboys superstar also sent Carter a signed jersey of his, along with some words of encouragement, during a Fanatics rookie promo that paired some of the premier members of the 2025 rookie class with an NFL “legend” who helped pave the way for them at their position.

So, there’s certainly a mutual respect between the two NFC East pass rushers.

It’s also no secret that Parsons resetting the market at edge rusher would be good news for Carter, as well as any other NFL pass rushers who expect to get paid in the future. So, it shouldn’t come as a shock that the Giants youngster wants to see Parsons get the new contract he’s currently seeking.

Giants Rival Cowboys Could Be Without Micah Parsons to Start 2025 Season

Cowboys' Micah Parsons got support from Giants' Abdul Carter amid contract talks.

GettyDallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons could sit out Week 1 if contract negotiations don’t begin to pick up soon.

The latest on the Cowboys’ Parsons saga is not promising for Dallas. While speaking on ESPN’s “Get Up” on August 11, NFL insider Adam Schefter provided the following update (via Sports Illustrated’s Josh Sanchez).

“No deal in sight,” Schefter reported. “If there’s no deal in sight… what’s going to happen? Is Micah going to play in the opener? We’ve already heard Jerry Jones wonder about whether Micah would be out there on opening day.”

“What would be the Cowboys’ plan here?” The insider continued. “Well, obviously if they can’t get a long-term deal done, and the two sides are not even talking about it right now, then they can always have Micah this year… if he plays. And they have the franchise tag after this year.

“They’d have the franchise tag the next year. They have his rights, essentially, for three years. At some point in time, you have to wonder if they would look to trade him.”

A conversation then ensued, in which Dan Orlovsky inferred that Parsons and the Cowboys organization simply do not appear to “like each other.”

Parsons requested a trade on August 1 after contract talks reached a standstill.

Later, after a couple of ill-advised comments from Jerry Jones, the superstar pass rusher sat out training camp practice with “back tightness,” although the assumption is that Parsons’ health would magically clear up if an extension were agreed upon.

The Cowboys have reiterated that they have no plans to trade Parsons despite Jones admitting that his team could be without their game-wrecking pass rusher for Week 1.

Abdul Carter Resembles Micah Parsons in Giants’ Preseason Debut

Carter has lived up to the hype so far, and that continued on August 9 as the Giants prospect resembled Parsons on the field.

Pro Football Focus credited Carter with an 82.2 overall grade and 3 quarterback pressures over his six defensive snaps. Oh, by the way, only three of those six snaps were pass-rushing snaps, so Carter managed to achieve a QB pressure on 100% of his true pass-rushing opportunities in a small sample size.

He was also credited with a team-leading pass rush win-rate of 66.7%, and a ridiculous PRP score (a “formula that combines sacks, hits and hurries relative to how many times they rush the passer”) of 50.0.

For clarity, the regular season league leader in PRP last year (minimum 20% of snaps played) had a 16.3 PRP score. Obviously, Carter’s stats will decrease with more snaps, but the Giants youngster’s early preseason PRP of 50.0 is unheard of.
