It has been evident over the past few years that Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown has grown increasingly frustrated with the offense. Whether it’s fair for Brown to feel that way is one thing, especially when the team is winning games, but it’s something to monitor.
Moreover, it’s reached the point where others around the league understand it too, and it sounds like New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll threw a bit of a shot at the Eagles and the way they’re running their offense.Â
According to Connor Hughes of SNY, Daboll stated that Brown is open a lot, seemingly pouring gas into the fire.
âYou watch the tape ⦠AJ (Brown) is open a lot,â the Giants coach said.Â
A.J. Brown Remains Frustrated With Eagles Offense
It was reported before the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 5 game against the Denver Broncos that Brown was frustrated, as noted by Dianna Russini of The Athletic. Given that the Eagles have played well to start the year, sitting at 4-1 and were a perfect 4-0 before losing to the Broncos in Week 5, it’s tough to say the way Brown is acting is right.Â
However, for a player who’s clearly one of the top 10 receivers in the NFL, and wants to put up the counting stats that will help him along the way, he has some fairness to feel the way he does.Â
âA.J. Brown is frustrated ⦠again.
âHeâs made that clear, while the other high-paid receiver in Philadelphia, DeVonta Smith, has stayed quiet despite his own frustrations, multiple sources tell me. The wideouts in Philadelphia clearly want more touchdowns. They each have one,â she wrote.
According to Russini, head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman have spoken with Brown.Â
âSirianni and Roseman have already had their own private conversations with Brown to hear him out and they are managing the situation,â she wrote.
Should the Eagles Get A.J. Brown More Involved?
Executives around the NFL, according to Russini, feel a certain way about how Brown feels. While the Philadelphia Eagles can quickly debunk some of the noise, given they just won a Super Bowl and continue to win games, the offense does become a bit predictable at times.Â
However, considering theyâre winning games, there isn’t much of a reason to change things up.
âRight now, for the Eagles, itâs run, run, run, (Jalen) Hurts off-schedule pass, tush push. For their receivers, that means when they get to the red zone, they arenât getting the ball â and they know it. Hence the frustrations.â
âBrown doesnât realize how bad it could be,â another league source told me. âYou think if Howie Roseman is going to eventually trade him, heâs going to send him to a team with some elite quarterback? Think about how much worse it could be. Respectfully, (Brown) could still be on the 0-4 Titans. Life is good in Philly.â
Just because the Eagles’ offense was as good as it was a year ago, and even has the opportunity to be better this year, doesn’t mean things will work out as perfectly as possible in the early stage of the season.Â
The Eagles need to recognize that they’ve only played five games. If they can establish a strong run game while also throwing the ball, they’ll be more than fine.
âLook at last season,â a third league source added. âPhilly was 2-2 and then settled in. There has to be some patience for the offense to come together. Everyone.â
Brown and the Eagles will have an opportunity to do so on Thursday night against a below-average New York Giants team.
