Former New York Giants coach Brian Daboll is expected to accept the Tennessee Titans’ offensive coordinator position, barring the Las Vegas Raiders choosing him as their next head coach.
He’ll join another former New York coach, Robert Saleh, and they’ll both hope to distance themselves from their previous head coaching opportunities.
The biggest draw to the Titans gig was former No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, who showed tantalizing upside in spurts throughout his tumultuous rookie season.
But Daboll seems to be a big fan of Ward, and reportedly has been since the 2025 pre-draft process, according to a new report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Giants Tried to Trade the House for Cam Ward
Shortly after reporting Daboll’s commitment to the Tennessee Titans’ offensive coordinator position, Schultz dropped several nuggets of information regarding the pursuit of the former New York Giants coach.
Among them was the prior relationship between Daboll and Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi, and Daboll’s strong interest in the Buffalo Bills head coaching gig.
But the most eye-raising of all was the fact that the Giants attempted to trade up to the No. 1 pick for Ward in 2025, thanks to Daboll’s obsession with his talents.
“The Titans were well aware of how much Daboll loved Ward. Why? Sources say the Giants made a massive push last year to trade up to No. 1 for Ward, offering the No. 3 pick, a 2025 first-rounder, and multiple Day 2 picks. The Titans declined,” reported Schultz.
It’s interesting to see just how highly rated New York had Ward on their draft board, considering they weren’t willing to select Jaxson Dart until the back end of the first round.
If the Giants had mortgaged their future for the No. 1 overall pick and Ward had a better rookie season under Daboll’s tutelage than even Dart did, would New York’s former head coach still be in place?
Who knows for sure, but we will be seeing what a Ward/Daboll-led offense will produce for the Titans in 2026.
Armed with the sixth overall pick in the draft and almost $93 million in cap space to work with, Tennessee should be able to put some pieces around their hopeful franchise quarterback and let him grow.
Brian Daboll’s Track Record With Quarterbacks
Daboll’s claim to fame as an assistant coach before he got the New York Giants head coaching job is his work in developing quarterbacks.
He helped turn Mac Jones into a star at Alabama, he turned Josh Allen from a raw prospect from Wyoming into an MVP candidate with the Buffalo Bills, and before getting fired by the Giants, he had Jaxson Dart looking like the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Imagine what he’ll be able to do with Ward’s latent abilities?
If Daboll’s able to prove his talents once again with the Tennessee Titans, he’ll almost certainly find himself back in head coach conversations next offseason.
“Working with Cam Ward is a draw for both the Titans and Daboll. An opportunity for Daboll to mold a young QB and remain in the head coaching cycle in the future,” wrote NFL insider James Palmer.
This partnership hopes to be a win for all parties.
