Giants Executives and Players Open Up on Bob Melvin’s Extension

This 2025 season was expected to be a big year to see what the San Francisco Giants could do. As the season gets closer to the All-Star Break, the Giants are showing serious promise under second-year manager Bob Melvin. There was some caution for the Giants to sign Melvin after underwhelming expectations with the San Diego Padres.

Executives and Players Excited for Future With Bob Melvin

This season, the San Francisco Giants are encouraged by the progress that Melvin is bringing to the team. Going into Tuesday’s game, the Giants have accumulated an overall record of 45-40 and barely third place in a loaded NL West Division. The Giants truly feel like they contend with their rivals in the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL. As a result, the Giants have picked up Melvin’s option for the 2026 season.

Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey talked about the organization’s decision to not only extend Melvin but to trust his process.

“Having the chance to work alongside Bob every day, we’re really fortunate to have such an experienced leader and one of the most well-respected managers in baseball. His leadership, preparation, and connection with our players have been invaluable, and we believe he’s the right person to continue guiding this team forward.”

Giants star pitcher Logan Webb was happy with the front office’s decision to pick up Mevin’s third year.

“Everyone in this clubhouse has his back the whole time.” He went on to talk about him being the fit for the Giants and their future. “It’s exciting for us to see. He’s one of the greatest managers, I think, of all time.”

Third baseman Matt Chapman was also happy for Melvin’s third-year deal.

“I’m so pumped for him. He deserves it.”

Melvin Is Instrumental in Giants’ Team Building

Melvin has seen some solid growing success for the San Francisco Giants. They’ve accumulated an overall record of 125-119 in 244 total games played. Last season, the Giants finished two games under .500% with an 80-82 record and fourth in the NL West. The Giants knew they needed to improve in the batting, fielding, and pitching games.

This off-season, the front office signed starting pitchers Justin Verlander and Robbie Ray to help solidify the main pitching unit. The Giants also added a two-way star in shortstop Willy Adames after several years of underrated performances with the Milwaukee Brewers. They even made a big trade for Boston Red Sox designated hitter Rafael Devers. Melvins and the Giants have easily persuaded Devers to play first base.

Melvin talked about the opportunity to extend his career with the Giants and potentially contend for a World Series title.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this group. I believe in what we’re building here, and I appreciate the confidence that the Giants ownership group, Greg, Buster, Larry, Zack, and the rest of the Giants’ organization have shown in me and our staff. We have a lot of unfinished business this year, and I’m looking forward to the work ahead.”

Melvin is in his 22nd year as a manager. He is also on his fifth team after some good stretches, but his best was with the Oakland Athletics. Melvin has a chance to account for his best postseason success with the Giants, but more needs to be done. The players and the front office believe he is on the right path, however.
