Giants Expected to Pursue Wide Receiver Trade Before Deadline as Injuries Pile Up

The New York Giants are running out of options at wide receiver, and the urgency to act before the November 4 NFL trade deadline is growing by the day. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has shown promise in his first year, but the offense is crumbling around him. With Malik Nabers out for the season due to a torn ACL and Darius Slayton still recovering from a hamstring injury, the Giants’ receiving corps has become one of the thinnest in football.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that New York expressed interest in Miami Dolphins star Jaylen Waddle, but the Dolphins refuse to move him right now. The Giants also pursued other potential targets, including Chris Olave of the New Orleans Saints and Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders, though neither appears especially attainable.

“It’s not that the Giants don’t want to make a splash,” Raanan noted. “It’s that the market just doesn’t favor them. The Dolphins aren’t selling, and the Saints are unsure about parting with Olave.”

The Giants’ lack of draft capital complicates things further. Without a third-round pick in 2026—which they traded to move up and draft Dart—general manager Joe Schoen doesn’t have much leverage. That limits the type of move New York can realistically make, especially if they want to avoid mortgaging future assets for a short-term rental.

Low-Cost Options More Likely Than Blockbusters

While fans may dream of a headline move, multiple insiders, including ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, believe the Giants are more likely to “window-shop but ultimately stand pat.” In other words, they’ll explore potential trades but stop short of paying premium prices for established stars.

The Athletic echoed that sentiment, reporting that the front office is hesitant to part with high-value picks as the team sits at 2–5 and continues its rebuild. Instead, the expectation is that the Giants will pursue a low-cost veteran—a dependable route-runner or slot option who can give Dart another reliable target without breaking the bank.

Jakobi Meyers remains the most realistic name on the list. The Raiders receiver is in the final year of his contract and is reportedly open to a change of scenery. But even that deal comes with risk: Meyers is 29, and the Giants would be gambling on a short-term fix who could leave in free agency next spring.

“New York’s priority should be supporting Dart’s development, not overpaying for a name,” one NFC executive told Fowler. “They just need a professional receiver who can move the chains and keep defenses honest.”

Giants Need Help Now—But Must Think Long-Term

No one doubts that the Giants need help at receiver. Outside of Wan’Dale Robinson, the current group has struggled to create separation or generate big plays. Dart has performed admirably despite those limitations, but a young quarterback can only carry so much of the load.

Still, the front office seems intent on keeping its long-term plan intact. The Giants have been cautious about spending or trading aggressively since rebuilding began last spring, and with limited assets, that patience is expected to continue.

Fans shouldn’t expect Jaylen Waddle or Chris Olave to walk through the door next week, but a depth addition could still arrive before the deadline—someone capable of helping Dart stay afloat while the franchise prepares for another big offseason reset.
