Giants’ Hidden Benefit of Dallas Cowboys Trading Micah Parsons Revealed

New York Giants offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor along with quarterback Russell Wilson had to take a collective sigh of relief after the Dallas Cowboys dealt All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in a blockbuster trade that alters the NFL landscape.

After all, Wilson won’t be running from Parsons nor Thomas or Eluemunor facing the unenviable task of containing the explosive edge rusher who posted 70 quarterback pressures last season, twice during the upcoming campaign.

There was also a hidden benefit for the Giants in removing Parsons from the NFC East.

Before the trade, New York had previously been facing the league’s most difficult strength of schedule.

However, according to FTN Fantasy’s Aaron Schatz, that’s no longer the case as both the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears have leapfrogged the Giants, now that they’ll be squaring off against Parsons’ Packers twice this season.

Through his first four NFL seasons, Parsons has logged 52. sacks, including 4.5 sacks in eight games against the Giants, all Cowboys victories.

Wilson and the Giants’ offensive line aren’t out of the woods yet, though, because New York hosts Parsons and the Packers in Week 10 at MetLife Stadium.

Giants’ Russell Wilson a Big Winner from Micah Parsons Trade

GettyNew York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson will now only have to face Micah Parsons once this season.

Prior to Thursday’s blockbuster trade, Wilson and the Giants were set to square off against Parsons and the Cowboys in Week 2, so, the veteran quarterback will have several more weeks to prepare for the game-wrecking edge rusher.

Not having to deal with Parsons twice each season is a big win for the Giants, for Wilson, and rookie Jaxson Dart, as pointed out by NFL Media’s Kevin Patra, NFC East quarterbacks are among the biggest winners of the Cowboys trading away their All-Pro.

“You can almost hear the din from chuckling Commanders, Eagles and Giants fans across the country,” Patra writes of the Parsons blockbuster. “Their division rival just sold the best defensive player in the conference for a couple of lotto tickets and a defensive tackle entering his age-30 season in Clark. Even with an offensive line as good as Philly’s, Parsons still gave the Eagles fits. The edge rusher’s 10.5 career sacks versus Washington represent his highest total against any club, by five.

“The regularly rebuilding Giants offensive line finally gets a reprieve. Parsons is the type of defender whom offensive coaches spend an entire week game-planning for. Not having to face him twice a year? That’s a massive win, even before you consider that Dallas got unquestionably weaker.”

For the Giants’ new-look offense, the absence of Parsons is not just a reprieve … it’s an unexpected and significant gift, clearing the way for Wilson and Dart to establish their new era and a potentially explosive scheme without facing one of the league’s most dominant obstacles.
