The New York Giants got more bad news on the morning of September 22, following the Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Giants RB Tyrone Tracy dislocated his shoulder in the first half of Sunday night’s loss to the Chiefs and is expected to miss some time, per sources,” ESPN NYG beat reporter Jordan Raanan relayed on X. “He had seven carries for 29 yards prior to injury.”
With Tracy sidelined, the expectation is that standout rookie Cam Skattebo will be promoted into the RB1 role, but he’s not the only fan favorite who could earn a promotion based on this news.
Per The Athletic’s Dan Duggan, second-year prospect Dante “Turbo” Miller may also earn some looks on the 53-man roster with Tracy sidelined.
“Everyone wanting to see Turbo Miller get an opportunity should get their wish,” Duggan commented in response to Tracy’s injury update.
Miller is currently on the practice squad, and with Eric Gray still injured, he’s next in line to bolster the RB room behind Skattebo and veteran Devin Singletary. Of course, Big Blue could also look outside the organization for running back help if they feel Miller isn’t ready for an active roster role.
Either way, don’t be surprised if the Giants sign another veteran RB option. A reunion with journeyman Jonathan Ward would make a lot of sense, as he impressed during the preseason with Big Blue and also has experience on special teams.
Giants RB Cam Skattebo Shines as Rare Bright Spot in Week 3 Loss
Tracy and Skattebo had the look of a dynamic one-two punch, so it’s a shame that the Giants won’t get to explore that further over the next few weeks.
On the bright side, fans will undoubtedly see a lot more of Skattebo, who enjoyed a coming-out party against the Chiefs.
The fourth-round rookie was 10 for 60 on the ground for an impressive yards per carry average of 6.0, but even more enticing was his ability to break tackles. This was Skattebo’s calling card throughout his collegiate career, but many doubted whether it would translate to the NFL level.
So far, it has. Skattebo was slippery as ever against the Chiefs, shedding two or three defenders at times.
He was also a force out of the backfield on passing plays, catching 6 of 8 targets for a team-leading 61 receiving yards. In short, Skattebo was basically the Giants’ entire offense in Week 3; he even scored their lone touchdown.
