Giants Linked to Two-Time Coach of the Year Winner as Next HC

The New York Giants will be on the hunt for the franchise’s next head coach this offseason, following a disappointing season in 2025.

Interim head coach Mike Kafka has done his best to fill in for the fired Brian Daboll, but it was always going to be an uphill climb to win the full-time job with the hand he’s been dealt.

That being said, the opening is expected to receive plenty of interest from prospective head coaches around the league, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

“It’s not like they won’t have options. One source with intimate knowledge of the opening described the Giants job as ‘highly coveted’ due to it’s young core and — they are the New York Giants, still a marquee franchise,” wrote Raanan.

“It was a sentiment also shared by several other agents with candidates who are interested in the position.”

But will it be attractive enough to interest a coach who is currently employed by another team?

Jeremy Fowler Links Kevin Stefanski to Giants Job

Despite still being the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler linked Kevin Stefanski to the New York Giants ahead of the 2026 offseason.

“Stefanski might be the strongest retread candidate in the eyes of many. The Giants would be an ideal fit. And trades of any kind are never off the table in Cleveland, but it’d be tricky trying to trade a coach who’s 7-26 over the past two years,” wrote Fowler.

Stefanski, a two-time Coach of the Year winner, would be a solid hire for the Giants.

Despite his struggles in recent years in Cleveland, Stefanski had a strong start to his tenure as head coach of the Browns.

In his first four seasons at the helm, Cleveland went 37-30 and saw two playoff berths, including a 48-37 victory over their AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers.

Once the quarterback play got worse, namely, trading for Deshaun Watson and relying on Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders, the Browns struggled.

It’s all culminated in Browns fans being fed up with their longtime coach, and it seems a fresh change of scenery could benefit all parties involved.

The Quarterback Whisperer?

Hiring Stefanski would also be a clear commitment to rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, as the head coach has a reputation for getting the best out of his trigger men.

After these last few seasons in Cleveland, it sounds like a silly statement. But his past work speaks for itself.

Kirk Cousins played some of the best football of his career when Stefanski was his offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings.

He made the playoffs with Flacco in 2023, when the veteran quarterback went unsigned through half of the season.

Imagine the wonders he could do for Dart?

SNY’s Connor Hughes also named Stefanski as a potential target back in November.

“The two-time NFL Coach of the Year will be in extremely high demand if Cleveland lets him go. He’s had significant success despite being hamstrung by decisions that he likely didn’t control (Deshaun Watson),” wrote Hughes.

“Considering the quarterback roulette that Stefanski has dealt with over the past couple years, he might jump at the chance to work with Jaxson Dart.”

If New York could find a way to land Stefanski, it could be a home run hire, especially for Dart.
