Giants Offer Immediate Update on Malik Nabers After Camp Injury: Sources

Malik Nabers and the New York Giants appear to have avoided the worst, after the star wide receiver suffered an apparent shoulder injury during Tuesday’s training camp practice.

“My sense is that it isn’t serious,” a team source told Heavy, on the condition of anonymity to speak freely about the situation.

Nabers was cleared for a full workload just as training camp got underway after being limited to being a spectator for much of New York’s OTA and minicamp practices this spring while recovering from the lingering effects of a foot injury suffered last season.

The former No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Nabers‘ electrifying talent and ability to stretch the field was one of the few bright spots for the Giants’ offense last season, catching 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games, as a rookie.

Through the first two weeks of training camp, Nabers has been drawing rave reviews this summer.

“He’s just so explosive,” Giants cornerback Paulson Adebo told reporters, of Nabers, after covering him in practice. “I think his ability to get in and out of his releases, in and out of his breaks, the suddenness which he moves with that all the elite receivers have, I think that’s something that makes him incredibly tough to cover.”

Fortunately for the Giants, it sounds like everyone can breathe a sigh of relief after Nabers’ injury scare in practice.

If the first practices of training camp this summer are any indication, Nabers could be on the cusp of leveling up his game from a stellar rookie campaign.

There has been significant buzz emanating from East Rutherford about Nabers’ big-play ability this summer, his chemistry with quarterback Russell Wilson, and what the offense has been able to do consistently.

As the 2025 season approaches, Nabers figures to once again play a starring role in the Giants’ trajectory.

“He made some really big plays,” Wilson told reporters recently, of Nabers. “I think he had probably two or three touchdowns down there for sure. I think there’s going to be more to him and we’re going to keep developing. Obviously, we’re just getting started and just kind of warming up and getting hot, but we’re excited to work together.”

Last season, Giants quarterbacks posted a stellar 96.6 passer rating when targeting Nabers, and it’s easy to see why Wilson is so optimistic about the connection’s and the offense’s potential this fall.

“[Malik] made a couple plays down the field,” Slayton told reporters, following a recent practice. “So you see the flashes kind of early on. We’re in the red zone, the high reds, so we literally haven’t even gotten to the full field yet, but you kind of see flashes of plays being made.”

In addition to big plays on the practice field, Nabers is already stepping into a larger leadership role as his second NFL season nears.

“I mean, you can see it,” Second-year running back Tyrone Tracy told reporters. “Obviously, (wide receiver) Leek (Malik Nabers), he’s being more vocal.”
