Giants QB Jaxson Dart Fires Warning Shot at Saints Ahead of Week 5

The New York Giants made the surprising decision to turn to first-round rookie Jaxson Dart as their starting quarterback in Week 4 ahead of their clash with the Los Angeles Chargers. The bold move paid off immediately, though, as Dart led the Giants to an upset 21-18 victory over the Chargers, which was the team’s first win of the season.

As a result, Dart will remain the team’s starting quarterback moving forward, and he will draw a much more favorable matchup in Week 5 against the winless New Orleans Saints. And yet, Dart has some extra motivation for this game, leading to him firing a warning shot to the Saints ahead of New York’s upcoming game.

Jaxson Dart Sends Strong Message to Saints

Dart entered the 2025 draft as one of the top quarterbacks in his class. While he wasn’t believed to be on the same level as Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, he was expected to come off the board late in the first round or early in the second round. Ward ended up getting selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans, but after that, there was a pretty sizable gap between him and the next quarterback selected.

One team that was viewed as potentially being interested in taking a quarterback was the Saints. With the No. 9 overall pick, they passed on Sanders and Dart and instead picked offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. They would eventually select Tyler Shough with the No. 40 overall pick to be their quarterback of the future, which was especially surprising since Sanders was still on the board.

Dart ended up getting taken by the Giants with the No. 25 overall pick to move up the board to get him. New Orleans may have been interested in him had he fallen to the second round, but in Dart’s mind, they had their opportunity to take him with the No. 9 pick. And for that reason, he is holding a grudge against the Saints as he prepares for his second NFL start.

There is always a chip on your shoulder any time something like that happens,” Dart said of the Saints passing on him in the 2025 draft. “But yeah, I’m just going to go out there and play as hard as I can … I felt like my visit with them went good. You kind of have thoughts in your head about what options are realistic, and I felt that was a place that could’ve panned out. But things didn’t work out that way.”

Jaxson Dart, Giants Looking for Second Straight Win in Week 5

It certainly looks like the Saints could have used some help at quarterback, as Shough failed to beat out Spencer Rattler for the team’s starting job under center out of training camp. Dart didn’t win the job in Week 1 either, but he faced significantly more competition with Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito being in town during the summer.

Now, Dart has taken over after three rough starts from Wilson to begin the season, and while he didn’t post groundbreaking numbers against the Chargers (13/20, 111 YDS, 1 TD, 10 CAR, 54 YDS, 1 TD), he did enough to help his team get back in the win column. Dart clearly has quite a bit of motivation to take down the Saints, and he will look to lead the Giants to their second straight win when they take the field at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
