The New York Giants are in the midst of camp, and this season more than others, all eyes are on the franchise. It’s a big year for head coach Brian Daboll, as he’s expected to turn this team around from last season’s rough 3-14 record.
When it comes to the team’s quarterback room, it’s packed. The sole quarterback returning to the New York Giants this year is Tommy DeVito, and he’s joined by veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart.
While many expect Dart to lead this franchise into the future, for now, Wilson is expected to start. When it comes to Dart, New York drafted him as their No. 25 overall pick in the 2025 draft. He led the FBS with 1,517 passing yards and 17 touchdowns on deep passes in 2024.
So, Dart is here to say, but what about the others? One NFL expert and analyst thinks one of the team’s new quarterbacks should already be traded away.
New York Giants Quarterback Named on the BR Trading Block
In a piece published on Saturday, July 26, for Bleacher Report, Kristopher Knox names quarterbacks that he believes teams in the NFL should pursue for trades before the new season begins.
In the story, he says, “Quarterback isn’t just the most important position in the NFL it might be the single most important role in all of professional sports.” He adds, “Teams that don’t have an elite signal-caller are constantly fighting to land one, and there are very few franchises that couldn’t stand to add more depth at the position.”
Jameis Winston is one of the quarterbacks he names as a fit for the trading block. He has him going to either the Minnesota Vikings or Tennessee Titans.
“The New York Giants signed Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal this offseason, which suggests they like his value as a multi-year backup,” Knox states in the feature. “However, Winston may never get a chance to be the Giants’ starter because they also signed Russell Wilson and then used a first-round draft pick on Jaxson Dart.”
As already mentioned, Wilson is expected to start for now. “These guys will be out here competing, but Russ is our starter,” said on Wednesday, July 23, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
So, that leaves Wilson with a lot of backup and maybe even too much backup. If the Giants are looking for a good trade, Winston may be one of their best trade assets.
Jameis Winston to the Vikings or Titans
“While Winston may not be completely expendable, a few teams should see if he is available,” Knox stated. “The 31-year-old does have an alarming turnover problem, but he can still stretch the field and pilot a high-powered passing attack.”
So, where do the Vikings come in? “While Minnesota did trade for Sam Howell this offseason, it doesn’t have a ton of experience behind second-year quarterback and first-year starter J.J. McCarthy,” Knox states. He adds that “Winston could be a helpful mentor to (quarterback Cam) Ward while giving the Titans a high-end backup option.”
So, don’t get too attached to Winston just yet.
