The New York Giants have played badly enough to get coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen fired and not win a game under interim coach Mike Kafka.
But running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. doesn’t feel the Giants are tanking.
Tracy offered a strong statement about the Giants amid their ongoing eight-game losing streak ahead of their final three games of the NFL season.
The Giants (2-12) are currently locked into the No. 1 overall pick despite their 5-9 expected win-loss record, according to Pro-Football Reference. New York is 0-4 under Kafka since he took over for Daboll, who was fired Nov. 10 after the team’s 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
New York will host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Tyrone Tracy: The Giants Aren’t Tanking
The Giants are tied for the worst record in the NFL, but there is tangible proof they have not quit, even amid their ongoing losing skid, according to Tracy.
“If you look at every game that we’ve been in, besides I mean a few games, every game we have competed,” Tracy said. “Not just competed in. … The ball just hasn’t rolled our way toward the end of the game.”
To Tracy’s point, the Giants are 1-6 in one-score games, including their 29-21 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
They have a minus-73 point differential in their current losing streak — meaning their losses have come by an average of just 9.1 points. Their season-long minus-96 point differential this season is superior to two four-win teams, the Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints.
“When you look at the film or look at the stats or look at everything, we’re going out there and we’re [playing],” Tracy said.
Consider that, and the fact the Giants entered the with the most difficult schedule in the NFL, and Tracy has seen cause for optimism and expects the Giants to continue competing over their final three games against Minnesota, the Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys.
“We’re doing everything that we can to win the game and that’s not going to change going forward,” Tracy said. “We’re never going to go out and try to lose or throw a game away. We’re going to go out there to win.”
The Giants Don’t Want To Hear About The Draft
The Giants are in flux again, and many of their fans have turned their attention to April’s draft in Pittsburgh.
Mock drafts have been floating New York trading out of the No. 1 overall pick despite the fact there’s still three games left.
The Giants cost themselves the top pick a year ago in Week 17 but also doomed the Indianapolis Colts‘ playoff hopes by winning 45-33 at MetLife Stadium — though it all worked out since New York both landed Abdul Carter but also its presumed quarterback of the future in Jaxson Dart.
So even though the seats at MetLife Stadium will mostly be empty Sunday — and potentially for the Week 18 finale against Dallas — Tracy doesn’t want to hear about the Giants’ draft position.
“We don’t care what the outside has to say about the draft pick,” Tracy said. “We don’t care what they say about players in college that we should get or we could get. We worry about the coaches we have right now and the players we have right now and the opportunities we get to have out there on the field.”
