The New York Giants robbed the New York Jets.
On Tuesday, October 21, the Giants stole defensive back Korie Black off the Jets’ practice squad by signing him to the 53-man roster, Big Blue senior managing editor Dan Salomone wrote.
Jets and Giants Continue to Fight Over Black
Black, 23, entered the league as the No. 246 overall pick in the seventh round of April’s draft by the Giants.
The former Oklahoma State product was with the team the entire offseason. He initially made the Giants’ 53-man roster. However, after a series of other moves by the Giants, he was waived. Black wasn’t claimed on waivers, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The Giants wanted to bring Black back on the practice squad. He rejected their offer and instead joined the Jets’ practice squad on August 29.
Fast forward two months, and Black is now back where he all started after rejoining the Giants roster.
Dan Duggan of The Athletic explained why this is “an example of why you can’t carry hard feelings in the NFL.”
Jets Replace Black on the Practice Squad
After losing depth in the secondary, the Jets have filled the void.
The team announced on Wednesday, October 22, that they have signed defensive back J.T. Woods to the practice squad. That fills the temporary void on the practice squad that was left by Black when he joined the Giants’ active roster.
Jets editorial contributor Susanna Weir posted more information in a press release: “Woods (6-2, 195) was initially selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Baylor product spent two seasons with the team, appearing in 13 games and registering 8 tackles. Woods, who tied for the FBS lead with 6 interceptions in his final collegiate season, had brief stints with the Philadelphia Eagles’ and Chicago Bears’ practice squads during the 2024 season. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Seattle Seahawks in January but was released in July. Woods spent 2025 training camp with the Las Vegas Raiders and was added to the team’s practice squad in August. He was released from the p-squad on Oct. 21.”
Fans Continue to Await the Jets Regular Season Debut of Fan Favorite
Speaking of the practice squad, a Jets fan favorite has been cryogenically frozen there all season.
Undrafted free agent Jamaal Pritchett has yet to be elevated for a game this year. With Kene Nwangwu battling the NFL’s five-step concussion protocol, perhaps this can be the week for Pritchett to get his shot.
The talented wide receiver lacks size at 5-foot-9 and weighing 175 pounds, but he brings juice every time he touches the ball.
During his final season at South Alabama, he was named First Team All-Sun Belt. Pritchett was the first to reach 1,000 receiving yards in the Sun Belt conference, and he finished as the “leading receiver in the league with 1,126 yards,” the school posted.
Pritchett tied a school record with nine touchdown receptions in 2024. He finished with 91 catches, which was “25 more than the next-best receiver in that category in the Sun Belt, and it tied a South Alabama single-season record,” the school wrote on his bio page.
Pritchett hasn’t gotten his shot yet, but it only seems like a matter of time before he does.
