The Chicago Bears have been aggressive all offseason, signaling to the rest of the league that they are ready to leap from a rebuilding team to a legitimate playoff contender. General manager Ryan Poles added weapons for Caleb Williams and revamped the offensive line. Now, the next step could be adding yet another piece to a defense that already looks promising. Bleacher Report recently urged the New York Giants to trade former top-five pick, pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, to Chicago in exchange for a 2026 third- and fifth-round pick.
Why a Kayvon Thibodeaux Trade Makes Sense

GettyBears fans can get used to seeing Kayvon Thibodeaux sack Jordan Love.
On the surface, it may sound bold, but the idea makes sense for both sides. New York just spent its 2025 first-round pick on Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, who’s already looking like the new superstar pass rusher on defense.
And while the Giants picked up Thibodeaux’s fifth-year option earlier this offseason, he’s more of a “luxury” as Bleacher Report described than a necessity for a team with multiple holes across the roster. A trade would allow general manager Joe Schoen to stockpile picks while focusing on giving Carter and the rest of the young defense more opportunities on the field.
For Chicago, this isn’t about filling a desperate need; it’s about elevating an already strong foundation.
Adding Thibodeaux to Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo Could Create a Dominant Front
Bleacher Report’s proposal hits a tantalizing opportunity: adding Thibodeaux alongside Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo to create one of the most versatile and disruptive defensive fronts in the NFL.
And that’s not even mentioning Austin Booker, who’s been tearing up the preseason so far.
Sweat has already proven he can be the alpha pass rusher, and the Bears are betting big money on Odeyingbo to be a steady complementary force. Adding Thibodeaux, a 24-year-old 6’5″ and 258-lb pass rusher with top-tier athleticism and upside, would give the Bears a three, possibly four-headed attack that could overwhelm opposing offensive lines.
This is also where the trade value becomes especially appealing. Unlike a hypothetical blockbuster trade for Micah Parsons, which would cost multiple first-round picks, or a deal for Trey Hendrickson, who’s on the older side at 30, Thibodeaux is a younger and cheaper option in terms of age and draft capital. A third- and fifth-rounder in 2026 is a fair price to pay for a player with Pro Bowl potential who can grow alongside Chicago’s young defensive core.
The Bears have the flexibility to extend Thibodeaux, but the bigger question is whether the Giants are willing to let go of their young and ascending pass rusher.
If Ryan Poles is serious about maximizing the team’s current window while building for the future, this is the kind of forward-thinking move that could cement the Bears as one of the NFC’s most complete teams.
