It was a formality from the start that England would qualify for next summer’s World Cup finals but that becomes reality when Thomas Tuchel and the boys celebrate a straightforward victory against Latvia in Riga.

The ’11 Wolves’ will be no match for the Three Lions who have made the perfect start to their Group K campaign with five straight victories including a 3-0 stroll against their hosts at Wembley in March.

There have been a few sub-par performances en route when England have been somewhat underwhelming but they are only team in the European group stages to have not conceded a goal after five matches, although neither Spain or Switzerland have been breached in their three games.

The problem has been breaking down opponents playing on the back foot and going heavily into damaged limitation mode but England spanked Serbia 5-0 in Belgrade last month and beat Wales 3-0 in London last Thursday.

Latvia will probably play the low block at home and it has to be figured into the equation that they have only conceded eight times in six matches so far, with two of those goals were in the 2-2 draw at home to Andorra last time out.

It also has to be noted that the Wembley defeat was the only time in their last ten internationals they have been beaten by more than one goal which slightly belies their current Fifa ranking of 137th in the world, one place below the Faroe Islands and one spot above Turkmenistan.

Last time out we cashed the 2/1 for Bukayo Saka to score, England to lead HT/FT at 20/23, the Three Lions to win to nil at 10/11 and best and most nerve-jangling of all, 13/2 that England would win 3-0.

Clutch captain Harry Kane missed the victory against Wales with an ankle injury but Tuchel said after the match that he expects him to play against Latvia and he is 5/2 with Betway to open the scoring with his 75th goal for his country while a 2-0 away win is 11/2 with William Hill.
