Hawks Have Reported Interest in Anthony Davis

The Atlanta Hawks have plenty of ammo to make a big trade this season if they so choose. Coming into this season, they were looked at by many pundits as a possible dark-horse team to contend in the Eastern Conference.

Right now, the Hawks are seventh in the Eastern Conference standings. Trae Young has only played five games, so that could be a reason why they haven’t been able to put together a solid run. Yet, the Hawks are much better defensively without Young.

The Hawks have plenty of trade capital to make a big move if they want to. According to one report, Atlanta has some exploratory interest in big man Anthony Davis.

The Hawks Are Reportedly Interested in Anthony Davis

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Hawks have been looking into Davis. Davis doesn’t seem to be in the long-term plans of the new Mavericks regime now that Nico Harrison has been fired. Davis just hasn’t been on the court enough to justify the insane Luka Doncic trade.

So far this season, Davis has played just 11 games. When he’s been out there, his stats haven’t been good enough, either. He has the third-worst net rating of his career. If the Hawks are going to give up real assets for Davis, they have to be confident they can deal with his calf injury.

Scotto had this to say about the Hawks’ interest in Davis.

“Atlanta’s interest in Davis could be described as exploratory. The big question is whether acquiring Davis would move the needle to make the Hawks a contender in the East.”

Atlanta would have a better shot at being a real contender in the East if it traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that would also require it to give up more assets. That might not be something that the team is willing to do.

Atlanta Could Wait Until Deadline Day to Make Moves

With how bunched up the Eastern Conference is right now, the Hawks could decide to wait until the day of the trade deadline to actually make any moves. Davis doesn’t seem to have a robust trade market right now, so it’s unlikely a team would floor the Mavs with an offer the Hawks couldn’t match.

Atlanta likely wants to see how the team looks when Young returns from his knee injury, as well. In theory, Davis would pair well with Young because of Davis’ defensive prowess. He would be able to clean up any mistakes in the paint that Young may make on the defensive end.

Landry Fields will have some decisions to make in a couple of months. They have a nice mix of draft capital and solid players to make a move that could shake up the East. Whether or not they decide to execute a trade could come down to how they finish out the rest of 2025.
