THERE’S no better feeling in football than scoring a goal no matter how it goes in – but Euro 2024 has bizarrely seen a lot players putting the ball in their own net.
German defender Antonio Rudiger became a victim of this in the opening match when he handed Scotland their only goal in a 5-1 thrashing.

Since then, several players have followed suit including Albania’s Klaus Gjasula who put the ball in both nets during the chaotic clash with Croatia.
As a matter of fact, there were more own goals than purposeful goals scored at one stage in the tournament.

Euro 2024 is on track to beating the record amount of own goals in a single campaign.
The current record stands at 11-own goals which happened during the latest edition three years ago.
What country has scored the most own goals at the Euros?
Surprisingly, there has only been 25 own goals scored in the 17 Euros tournaments to date.
And Portugal are at the top of list having scored three own goals in previous tournaments.
Germany and Croatia have put a couple in their own net too over the years.
While former Premier League and England international Glen Johnson has scored the Three Lions’ only ever own goal at a Euros tournament.
