Manchester United might be having some trouble shifting their deadwood, but Anthony Elanga’s move from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle United will provide a slight boost to their coffers.
Newcastle completed the signing of the Sweden international on Friday night with the winger arriving at St James’ Park in a deal worth £52million with a further £3million in add-ons.
Elanga joined Forest in the summer of 2023, leaving Manchester United for £15m. the winger had been on United books since the age of 12 and broke into the first-team in 2021, scoring a memorable Champions League goal away to Atletico Madrid.
He was deemed surplus to requirements by Erik ten Hag, however, leaving Old Trafford having made 55 appearances in total.
United included a sell-on clause in the deal that took Elanga to Forest two years ago. While the exact details of the clause were never officially disclosed, reports suggest United will bank 15 per cent of the profits from his sale.

That means United will collect roughly £6m from the deal.
There could be another windfall imminent with Alvaro Fernandez close to sealing his move from Benfica to Real Madrid.

After a sparking season in Lisbon, Fernandez is set to return to Madrid in a €50million (£43m) transfer.
A sell-on clause was also included in the deal that saw Fernandez join Benfica last year, thought to stand at 20 per cent. That arrangement will see United bank roughly £7.6m.
