With the help of Conor McGregor, David Feldman has turned BKFC into a staple of the combat sports community.
According to the BKFC Founder & President, getting the promotion to this point was no small task.
During an in-studio appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show this week, Feldman revealed that prior to the BKFC 41 card at 1stBank Center in Colorado, he took out a mortgage on his house in order to fund the event.
“I want to, grow this thing. I love it. I really truly think it’s a $2, $3 billion exit so I’m all in. … my comfort zone is being uncomfortable, it truly is. I perform under pressure every time, and it always comes through.
“I’m gonna tell you a secret. the Denver event that I did that Conor McGregor came in … I mortgaged my house. I didn’t have the money for that event until three days after the event. Like, I did the event just rolling the dice and saying, ‘This is gonna work out.’ And it worked out. I just think if you do the right thing, work your ass off, put all the puzzle pieces together, it works out.”
David Feldman Talks BKFC 82 Competing Against UFC 320
This weekend, UFC vets Mike Perry and Jeremy Stephens will throw down in the main event of BKFC 82, the same day the UFC is hosting a championship double header that will see Magomed Ankalaev fight Alex Pereira, and Merab Dvalishvili fight Cory Sandhagen.
While the BKFC card is scheduled to begin earlier in the day, Feldman spoke about going head-to-head with the UFC:
“I was hoping for a sellout, but it doesn’t look like we’re gonna get there, to be honest with you. I think we’re going to be in the 11,000-12,000 range, which is very respectable, going against a UFC event, but we were hoping to get about 16,000, but we didn’t get there.
“I’m not very disappointed. I didn’t schedule this to go up against the UFC. I scheduled it first and then they came on it. I would never have scheduled it against the UFC, especially a PPV event of this magnitude. To go up against the UFC and still sell 11k-12k tickets… I’m happy.”
The BKFC 82 card will also include some familiar names, such as Frankie Edgar, Jimmie Rivera, and Oguwale Bamgbose.
David Feldman Hoping for McGregor vs. Diaz III in BKFC
When Nate Diaz parted ways with the UFC, he made it clear that his plan was to compete in various combat sports before eventually making his way back to the UFC.
So far, Diaz has competed in several boxing matches, however, there’s been no word on a potential UFC return.
According to Feldman, while Diaz has cited scar tissue as a key reason behind turning down a BKFC offer, he believes the possibility of a McGregor vs. Diaz trilogy fight may be enough to entice the Stockton superstar.
Of course, before that’s a possibility, McGregor has to fight out the remaining two fights on his UFC contract.
“If he gets through those two fights it makes no sense for him not to (fight in BKFC). … We talked to Nate a few times. He just literally said, ‘Look, I have too much scar tissue for this right now.’ But I think if it was Conor McGregor that was on the other side of that ring, he would take it.”
With McGregor hoping to fight on the UFC’s White House card, only time will tell whether he returns to the Octagon for one more fight in order to become a free agent.
