Insider Names Browns RB as a Possible Trade Candidate at Deadline

The 2025 NFL season is only six games old, but the Cleveland Browns have already endured quite a bit of change to this point. In just a few weeks, the Browns have already swung multiple trades, while also making a big change at quarterback, benching Joe Flacco (who was promptly traded) in favor of third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel.

Even with the team’s aforementioned work on the trade market, they may not be done making moves just yet. With the trade deadline quickly approaching, veteran running back Jerome Ford has been floated as a potential trade candidate after he lost his starting job to second-round rookie Quinshon Judkins.

Cleveland added a lot of youth to its offense in the 2025 NFL Draft, and with a 1-5 record, it seems like the coaching staff is intent on getting these guys involved in the action as much as possible. Gabriel and Judkins are already starting, and another rookie running back, Dylan Sampson, is also ahead of Ford on the depth chart at running back.

Ford has found himself without a role on the Browns for now, but he still holds value across the league. Considering how Ford has 1,463 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, while also hauling in 99 passes for 611 yards and another five scores, through the first four seasons of his career, it’s safe to say that several teams that are in need of a running back could be interested in him.

Pretty much everything is lining up for Ford to be traded. He’s set to hit free agency after this season, he’s lost his starting job, and there are several teams across the league that are expected to be in the market for running back help ahead of the trade deadline. And as if that wasn’t enough, reports are now confirming that Ford is a legitimate trade candidate for Cleveland.

“It’s a rookie show in Cleveland,” Jeremy Fowler wrote for ESPN. “Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson will man the backfield moving forward. The Browns have remained active in the market with three trades executed in recent weeks. And Ford has enough cachet in the league — with 1,378 rushing yards and seven touchdowns over 2023-24 — to attract interest.”

Should the Browns Trade Jerome Ford?

If there was ever a time to trade Ford, it seems like now would be that time. There’s a decent chance that if Ford doesn’t get dealt now, he will simply leave for free in free agency over the offseason. Beyond that, this is probably the most valuable Ford will ever be in his career, meaning the Browns’ front office should capitalize on his value while they can.

Of course, the process of making a trade is never easy, so there’s no guarantee that a deal involving Ford will come to fruition. The stars are aligning for a deal to come together, though, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him land with a new team in the near future. The 2025 NFL trade deadline is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
