After the Dallas Cowboys traded superstar linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers right before the 2025 NFL season got underway, the consensus seemed to be that America’s Team would be in for a rough season, with its defense a major question mark.
Although the Cowboys aren’t considered an elite team in the NFC right now, Dallas has played much better than anticipated, especially on offense, with star quarterback Dak Prescott having one of the best seasons of his NFL career.
However, it has become increasingly more apparent from week to week that if the Cowboys have any hope of being a playoff team in the NFC this season, the defense needs to be addressed ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 4
By all accounts, the Cowboys’ front office is hard at work making a significant upgrade on defense by targeting some of the top pass rushers in the league ahead of the trade deadline.
Cowboys Targeting ‘Impact Defensive Player’ Ahead of Deadline

All signs point to the Cowboys making a big move before the NFL trade deadline, with a little more than a week left before the buzzer sounds on deals teams around the league can make.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers are two teams to watch ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
“The Cowboys are looking for, I’m told, an impact defensive player,” Fowler said. “They had one of course in Micah Parsons and traded him. Now they have two first-round picks next year. They can use one of those; they have a day-two pick they can use. They’re looking around.
“You see Trey Hendrickson there. The Cowboys, I’m told, have really called around to several teams. Pretty much most of the league to try to survey the market and see who could be available in that front seven. Think defensive line, linebacker.
“That’s why those Maxx Crosby rumors came up this week. Although it looks like the [Las Vegas] Raiders are going to keep Maxx Crosby. They are looking high and low, really any tier to see if they can get somebody to help them in the front defensively.”
With Crosby seemingly off the board, the Cowboys could be working the phones and going hard at trying to land Trey Hendrickson in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals, which would potentially be a game-changing move for the storied franchise.
Can the Cowboys Win the NFC East?

If the Cowboys can make a game-changing move ahead of the NFL trade deadline, Dallas might have a shot of being a real threat to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East division.
Along with needing to make a big move to upgrade the team defensively, star quarterback Dak Prescott needs to continue playing at a high level while this offense clicks and puts up 30 to 40 points a week.
A lot will ride on the NFL trade deadline and what the Cowboys brass can do to give this potent offense a defense that can hold leads on a weekly basis.
