At 1-6, the Dolphinsâ season appears beyond saving. Changes are likely in store, though itâs still uncertain how far the team will go to fix the mess thatâs been created.
As such, itâs shaping up to be a busy trade deadline for Miami. According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the team could look to offload several pieces with an eye on the future.
Fowler predicted Wednesday that the Dolphins will trade at least two players before the Nov. 4 deadline, including one of their star pass rushers.
âThe Dolphins have Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb to deal, with Phillips having the most value of Miamiâs edge rushers,â Fowler wrote. âSeveral personnel departments have been enamored with his trajectory, which was derailed by injury. Miami doesnât appear ready to give the 2026 free agent an extension. It could be similar to Washington trading Chase Young and Montez Sweat at the deadline two years ago.â
Dolphins’ Pass Rushers Could Be in High Demand
While Phillipsâ injury history and Chubbâs large contract may scare off some teams, they make the most sense to depart because superior pass rushers are difficult to find. Several teams are expected to be in the hunt for that position, including Super Bowl contenders like the Eagles and 49ers.
Phillips is in the final year of his rookie contract, and because of his extensive injury history, the Dolphins may be hesitant to commit to him beyond this season. They could let him leave in free agency in hopes of receiving a compensatory draft pick. However, trading him would likely net a bigger return.
Dealing Chubb may be more complicated. The two-time Pro Bowler leads the team with four sacks in seven games but is due $19.4 million in base salary next season and carries a cap hit of $31.2 million.
Dolphins Resisting Urge to Trade Waddle
According to Fowler, the Dolphins have been getting calls about wide receiver Jaylen Waddle but remain reluctant to move him. Waddle has 30 catches for a team-high 405 yards and four touchdowns this season.
âThat can always change,â Fowler noted, âbut with Tyreek Hill injured, Waddle is a building block who can translate to any offense, which helps for a team that appears headed for a major transition. Heâs owed $36 million over 2025-26, which is reasonable for high-end players at his position.â
Fowler said he’s also closely monitoring safety Minkah Fitzpatrick’s future.
