Insider Reveals One of Jets’ Top Priorities This Offseason

The New York Jets are experiencing one of the worst historical turnover slumps in NFL history.

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic revealed in a column, “To the point about personnel, expect the Jets to make play-making a priority this offseason on defense. That was a staple of Glenn’s secondaries with the Detroit Lions. Safety Kerby Joseph had nine interceptions for Detroit in 2024, and Brian Branch had four. Right now, the Jets would kill for just one.”

This Turnover Drought Is Getting Ridiculous for the Jets

“A big topic of conversation around the Jets this week is how to create turnovers. They have only two takeaways, the fewest through 12 games in NFL history. Every other team has at least seven,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed.

“The Jets, somehow, have zero interceptions through 12 games — the longest run without a pick to start a season in NFL history,” Rosenblatt posted for The Athletic.

Defensive back Ashtyn Davis was the last player to intercept a pass for the Jets. It came on January 5, 2025, when the Jets hosted the Miami Dolphins in the regular season finale.

Davis finished the day with two interceptions. On Sunday, December 7, Davis will be lined up on the other side of the field for Miami, trying to intercept a pass from the Jets.

Only five games are remaining for the Jets during the 2025 regular season. Rosenblatt wrote that they’re on pace, “to set a new NFL record for fewest total takeaways (though it should be noted interceptions weren’t recorded until 1940). The previous record was held by the San Francisco 49ers, who finished with seven takeaways in 2018.”

The 49ers also hold the record for fewest interceptions in a single season when they finished with only two during that 2018 campaign, Rosenblatt revealed.

If It Was Ever Going to End…

You’d think if the Jets were going to find pay dirt from a turnover perspective, it would come in Week 14.

The Jets host the Dolphins for the last of two matchups this season.

Miami has 18 giveaways on the year, which is the seventh most in the NFL this season, per ESPN. Tua Tagovailoa has 14 interceptions this season, which is tied for the most in the NFL with Las Vegas Raiders passer Geno Smith.

“Any time the ball is in the air, we think it should be a pick,” head coach Aaron Glenn told the media on Wednesday, December 3 via Rosenblatt. “Any time the ball is in the air, we want to have it. It’s disappointing that we don’t have interceptions, because coming from what I’ve always played, you expect those things to happen. But, man, we really have to work on that. We have to be able to see the ball, win zone coverage, you’ve got to see the ball, you’ve got to be able to break on the ball. When you’re in man coverage, you’ve got to be able to play with your back to the quarterback and be able to react to the ball when it’s in your vicinity of where you’re at playing the man. It’s really puzzling, it really is.”
