Vikings left tackle Christian Darrisaw landed on the teamâs practice report Wednesday with a knee injury, raising concern about his availability for Thursdayâs primetime game against the Chargers.
Darrisaw already missed the seasonâs first two games while working his way back from a serious knee injury that prematurely ended his 2024 campaign. Itâs possible the Vikings were simply limiting Darrisawâs reps with a quick turnaround on tap, but he is now considered questionable to play.
A report from ESPNâs Kevin Seifert has only added to the worries about Darrisawâs status.
âChristian Darrisaw took regularly scheduled days off from practice before the (Week 6) bye and took himself out of the Browns game (in Week 5) as he worked back from his ACL/MCL injury. But he played every snap vs. Eagles (in Week 7). If this were a rest day, the report would have said not injury related,â Seifert wrote.
‘No Huge Concerns’ About Darrisaw’s Knee
Seifert provided more context concerning Darrisaw in a follow-up tweet, noting that Darrisaw needed some treatment on his knee after playing 69 snaps against the Eagles.
âNo huge concerns,â Seifert added, âbut also no guarantee he can make the quick turn on the short week. TBD.â
The Vikings were already dealing with an injury to their other starting tackle, as Brian OâNeill was limited Wednesday with a wrist issue. OâNeill is also listed as questionable, raising the possibility that Minnesotaâs offensive line will be without its two bookends against the Chargersâ fourth-ranked defense (372.7 yards allowed per game).
Justin Skule would likely start if Darrisaw or OâNeill are unable to play.
Darrisaw Beat Recovery Timetable Following Surgery
When healthy, the 6-foot-6, 315-pound Darrisaw has been a vital cog of the Vikingsâ offensive line. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Darrisaw is ranked 33rd out of 77 eligible tackles with a grade of 67.2. More specifically, he is 21st as a pass blocker and 47th as a run blocker.
Darrisaw was limited to seven games last season after tearing both the ACL and MCL in his left knee in October 2024. Despite an estimated 12-month recovery period, Darrisaw returned in Week 3 against the Bengals.
Looking like his old self, he gave up zero pressures on 38 offensive snaps and committed only one penalty.
