Insider Shares Blockbuster Jets Trade Pitch for Micah Parsons

Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons went nuclear on social media, requesting a trade amid a contract dispute.

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic pitched a trade idea that could send him to the New York Jets ahead of the 2025 season.

Jets receive: EDGE Micah Parsons

Cowboys receive: running back Breece Hall, pass rusher Jermaine Johnson, a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2028 third-round pick

“The Jets are not exactly in a position to be trading first-round picks, though the prospect of adding the caliber of player of Parsons is tempting. The Jets are prioritizing young players as they turn the page on the previous regime — and Parsons is still only 26, plays a premium position, and would provide star power for a team that is lacking it outside of Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson,” Rosenblatt explained.

“Yes, they would have to turn around and pay Parsons the money he’s seeking — but it would be worth it in this case. I came up with a package without any firsts, but it’s still pretty hefty: The Cowboys get two talented young players at positions of need. Hall is in the last year of his deal, while Johnson has another year left on his rookie deal and Dallas defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton (with the Jets previously) knows what he’s capable of — he made the Pro Bowl two years ago. He’s no Parsons, but he has the potential to keep getting better with time and development,” Rosenblatt said. “The Jets are very high on Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis at running back, so while losing Hall would hurt, it wouldn’t kill their offensive plans to run the ball more.”

Sometimes You Have to Strike While the Iron Is Hot

This would be the exact opposite of moving in silence. Making a trade for arguably the best defensive player in football in a blockbuster deal with America’s Team would create a firestorm of headlines.

This doesn’t seem to be in the DNA of new head coach Aaron Glenn, but sometimes you have to adapt.

How often is a player of Parsons’ caliber available to be potentially acquired? Maybe once in a lifetime.

Parsons, 26, has been in the league for four years. Every season he has been in the NFL, he has recorded at least 12 sacks.

Since the turn of the century, the Jets have had only four players record 12 or more sacks in a single season.

That list includes Quinnen Williams (12; 2022), Muhammad Wilkerson (12; 2015), Shaun Ellis (12.5; 2003), and John Abraham (13; 2001).

Parsons provides a floor of production, but he also brings a ceiling. In 2023, Parsons recorded a career high of 14 sacks.

In the Jets/New York Titans’ 65-year history, only four players have ever recorded 14 sacks or more in a single season.

That elite fraternity includes: Mark Gastineau (did it three times), Joe Klecko, Gerry Philbin, and Verlon Biggs.

Gastineau had 22 sacks in 1984, 20 sacks in 1981, and 19 sacks in 1983. Klecko had 20.5 sacks in 1981. Biggs had 15 sacks in 1967. Philbin had 14 sacks in 1968, per Pro Football Reference.

Parsons Social Media Activity Reveals a Burned Bridge

The former Penn State standout has one year left on his rookie contract. Jets fans know better than anyone the path for a player to force a team’s hand.

Jamal Adams went nuclear during the 2020 offseason. He made things uncomfortable for the Jets with his comments and social media activity, which ultimately led him to shoot his way out of town.

It also helped that the Jets received a historic haul for his services thanks to the Seattle Seahawks.

Parsons did his best to stir that pot on social media.

In a very long and passionate statement, Parsons spilled some tea on his relationship with Dallas.

Parsons said he no longer wants to play for the Cowboys. He accused the team of “taking shots” at him through the media. Parsons claimed he was “held” to a “closed door” contract negotiation without his agent present.

All of that hoopla led Parsons to request a trade and open the door for a potential seismic trade opportunity.
