Insiders Completely Reject Shedeur Sanders Jets-Browns QB Trade Rumors

With the 2025 New York Jets season going off the rails, a fan threw a wild idea into a mailbag.

On “Jets Final Drive,” a fan asked if the Jets could strike a trade with the Cleveland Browns for rookie Shedeur Sanders ahead of the Tuesday, November 4, deadline.

“Do you think the Jets can trade a fourth-round pick for Shedeur Sanders to see what he has the rest of the season?” the fan asked.

“God no. Do not do that. That would be a disaster,” NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY bluntly responded.

“Well, he said ‘can they’ and yes they can, but no they will not be doing that,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic said.

Insider Dives Deeper Into Sanders-Jets Trade Possibility and Why It Doesn’t Make Sense

On “Jets Mailbag,” Hughes was once again asked about the possibility of the Jets sending a fifth-round pick to the Browns for Sanders.

“God, we are in dark times. The Jets had an opportunity to draft Shedeur Sanders with a fifth-round pick or with any other selection during the NFL draft. They did not do that. Among the reasons why they did not choose to select Shedeur Sanders, and so many other people chose not to select him, because there is a lot that comes with selecting Shedeur Sanders. That is just a fact. There is attention with him, there is news with him, and there are also concerns with his play style,” Hughes explained.

“He holds onto the ball forever, he takes a lot of hits, he has to be in a pro-style offense with a good situation around him, [and] he likes to drift back when the pressure comes in, which leads to more negative plays. I get that there is interest and intrigue with him because of his last name and what he did at Colorado. He was probably a guy who fell in the draft for a reason. He turned off a lot of people during the pre-draft process,” Hughes said.

Head coach Aaron Glenn explained during the offseason that he didn’t want a celebrity quarterback.

“With Shedeur, there is a celebrity that comes with him. With Shedeur, there is a one, and then the 52 that comes with him, justified or not. It is just not a match made in heaven with the Jets in any shape or form. That is why they avoided him during the NFL draft and why they weren’t going to take him. That’s why I don’t see them trading anything to the Browns to get him,” Hughes explained.

Jets Fans Losing Faith/Interest in QB Plan for 2025

The team has officially announced nothing, but ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that the team is leaning toward starting Tyrod Taylor.

That means Justin Fields would be sent to the bench.

Taylor is 36 years of age. He is in the final year of his contract with the Jets. He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.

For better or for worse, you already know what Taylor is. He certainly isn’t the team’s long-term quarterback answer, so most fans don’t want to see him for the next 10 games.

The Jets hopped on the Fields train. It was a 26-year-old lottery ticket that could work out or could flame out. It appears we’ve reached the latter stage of those possibilities.
