J.K. Dobbins Offers Honest Comments After Broncos Defeat Cowboys

In his sixth NFL season, J.K. Dobbins has proven what he is capable of when healthy. Now, in his first season with the Denver Broncos, Dobbins is proving himself right. He said as much following the Broncos’ win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8.

A second-round draft pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2020, Dobbins spent the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

He joined the Broncos after some delay in free agency, and the rest is turning into history.

Pending “Monday Night Football” in Week 8, Dobbins ranks third with 634 rushing yards, and his 120 carries rank seventh. His 4 rushing touchdowns are also tied for the seventh-most, even though he also splits carries with rookie RJ Harvey.

Dobbins signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Broncos, and it is already looking like a bargain. Denver ranks third in team rushing yards.

“I’m proving myself, right, that I made the right decision coming here, and I appreciate everybody here. It has been a dream. Because [I] love coach Sean Payton. He’s a great person, and the offensive line is amazing. And then, the defense is amazing, and then the ownership is amazing,” Dobbins told reporters on October 26.

“Maybe I was born to be a Bronco. It just took a little time to get here.”

The Broncos are 6-2, sit atop the AFC West, and are coming off a win with their largest margin of victory in their highest-scoring game of the season. Dobbins said that there is another level the Broncos can reach.

Broncos Must Clean Up Mistakes

Dobbins explained “what was different” about this week for the Broncos that led to such a dominant victory over the Cowboys, saying they were “just making plays; we got in a rhythm.”

They must start fast and clean up mistakes to “reach our full potential,” but they “ain’t there yet.”

Dobbins said the Broncos “put an emphasis on starting fast. And we kinda did that, [but] we still haven’t started fast as we want to. We gotta stop making mistakes. We gotta stop committing the flags. All that stuff.

“The dream is to get a ring, you know what I’m saying? I do know a lot of people didn’t think – a lot of people didn’t think I was going to be that good, to be honest, right? I don’t know where I stand in rushing … But I do know, today, me and my boys, we went over another 100-yard game, right?”

That led to his remarks about validating his belief in himself. The win also held additional meaning for Dobbins.

He hails from Texas and still has strong family ties to the area.

“This was a great win. Great win, especially a guy – I’m from Texas. My grandparents are Cowboys fans. So, when I get home, I’ll be able to talk to some crap to them,” Dobbins said. “I put them on do not disturb.

“I love them, though. I’m gonna call them after the game, after I get out of here. But they love the Cowboys, though, so. But a lot of people in Texas do too.”

Bo Nix Praises J.K. Dobbins

Dobbins drew high praise from Broncos quarterback Bo Nix after the contest, too. Nix cited Dobbins’ running, but also his contributions in ways that do not show up on the stat sheet.

“We were fortunate to acquire him, and he hasn’t skipped a beat. He’s done exactly what J.K. does, and that’s run very physical, very tough. I think the craziest thing about today is you see his rushing yards, and he goes for a lot. And one of the big explosive touchdowns with Troy [Franklin], he has to come across and pick up a linebacker or pick up a safety, and he’s willing to do that,” Nix told reporters on October 26.

He sticks his face in there. He’s not a prima donna that’s worried about getting hit, or not want to protect, or just wants the football. He just does whatever the team needs him to do. And yeah, I think that’s just a representation of where we all are right now as a team. No matter what happens, we just want to make the right play and score touchdowns. And he allowed us to do a lot of that today by his rushing and by his protecting. So, we scored a lot today because of guys like that.”

Up next, Dobbins and the Broncos face the Houston Texans and their fifth-ranked run defense.
