Jack Draper was left ‘seething and furious’ during his Monte-Carlo Masters defeat to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Thursday.

The British No.1 tennis star was heard screaming at himself during the match before Davidovich Fokina clinched a shock 6-3 6-7 6-4 victory.

Draper, who was seeded fifth in Monte-Carlo having impressively climbed up to world No.6 in the ATP rankings, went into the third-round clash as the favourite against his Spanish opponent, who is currently the world No.42, despite Davidovich Fokina having more experience on the clay surface.

The clay surface is not Draper’s ‘first choice’, with the 23-year-old better suited to grass and hard courts like many other fellow British stars.

Nonetheless, Draper was left incredibly frustrated after failing to make a statement at what is the first major clay-court tournament of the year.

Draper let out a bellowing scream of ‘wake up’ to himself after being broken to zero by Davidovich Fokina midway through their showdown.

‘Jack Draper is seething,’ Naomi Cavaday said on commentary duties for Sky Sports. ‘He is furious.’

Ryan Harrison, on co-commentary duties, added: ‘Telling himself to wake up, he’s in a bit of a lull at the moment, he’s trying to ignite a bit of fire.’

Draper is currently gearing up for the second Grand Slam of the year – the French Open – which takes place in Paris from May 25 until June 8.

The Briton is hoping to enjoy a deep run there – having reached the semi-finals of the US Open last year – but must improve on clay in order to do so.

Draper has won three ATP Tour titles to date, clinching the biggest trophy of his career at the prestigious Indian Wells tournament last month.

His remarkable triumph at the hard-court event – considered by many to be the unofficial fifth Grand Slam – saw him move into the world top 10 for the first time in his career.

Davidovich Fokina, meanwhile, was not happy with how he played in his victory over Draper and described the match as being ‘very s***’ overall.

The 25-year-old Spaniard told Ziggo Sport: ‘Today was a very s*** match.

‘For myself, my part, I didn’t act very good, it was a rollercoaster, very emotional game today.

‘For his part, he didn’t serve very good today, he was a little bit nervous maybe.

‘We didn’t play our best tennis today. There is another way you can win these matches when not playing as good as I did the last two matches.

‘Today was not a good one, my attitude was very bad on court, I feel sorry for myself and my team, they had to be here three hours, watching me and my attitude.’
