Jacksonville Jaguars’ Offensive Strength is Now Gone

When the Jacksonville Jaguars got off to a hot 4-1 start to the NFL season, the offensive line was playing really well. Running back Travis Etienne was proving naysayers wrong and was an NFL rushing leader at one time (he’s since dropped down to 8th in yards).

But, in the last three weeks, the line has slipped quite a bit and the Jaguars have lost two in a row, even getting stomped by the Los Angeles Rams 35-7 last week at home in London.

Ian Hartitz of The Fantasy Life Show posted some interesting numbers on the Jaguars’ offensive line in 2025.

“Jaguars offensive line was dominating to start the season, but rough falloff the last three weeks:

Weeks 1-4:
Pressure rate: 23% (1st)
ETN yards per carry: 6.1
Tuten yards per carry: 4.2

Weeks 5-7:
Pressure rate: 51% (last)
ETN yards per carry: 3.8
Tuten yards per carry: 3.8”

In addition to cutting down on penalties and mistakes, the Jaguars are going to have to figure out how to get the line working again over their bye week.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ center says the offensive line needs better technique

In addition to Etienne’s recent struggles (some would argue that water sinks to its own level), quarterback Trevor Lawrence has also been taking a beating lately. In the last two weeks, he’s been pressured 67 total times, leading to 14 sacks and nine additional hits.

Some attributed the poor game against the Seattle Seahawks to not having center Robert Hainsey due to a hamstring injury. But, when he returned against the Rams, the line was arguably even worse.

“I think it’s just technique,” Hainsey said of the line’s recent issues. “It’s getting on the same level, playing together. I mean, it’s first of all unacceptable, and it’s something that we need to address and improve upon. So as a group, it’s up to us in our room to make sure that we are doing everything we can to prevent those things from happening. We know we’re going to get games, we know they’re going to line up in their giant fronts and their heavy and give us twists and games, especially on third down.

“So, when you’re in that situation a lot, they get the opportunity to tee off. So, making the run game go early on from an offensive line perspective, doing everything we can executing there so we can stay out of those third and longs, those obvious pass situations where, you know that stuff’s coming because it’s not the easiest thing to pass off, but being extremely prepared for when they do come up because at some point in the game it’s going to happen.”

Penalties are killing the Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen agrees with Hainsey that technique needs to improve and the team as a whole needs to cut down on mistakes and penalties. The Jags are the most penalized team in the NFL and have committed 23 penalties for 195 yards in the last two games alone.

“New. New … new fundamentals, new techniques, new what you’re asking them to do, new style of play,” Coen said. “You’re ultimately all new together and so maybe some of the fundamentals get blurred. The answer for me to fix penalties is to simplify what we’re asking them to do.

“You have to emphasize it. I don’t know how to emphasize it more. I don’t want to have these guys playing in the back of their minds, ‘If I do this, I’m going to get a penalty.’ It’s not about that. It’s about, ‘Guys, we have to play cleaner.’
