T
he Jacksonville Jaguars are enjoying a strong start to the 2025 season, coming off of a big statement win in week four over the San Francisco 49ers to improve to 3-1. Eager to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022, the Jaguars brought in a new head coach in Liam Coen and invested heavily on improving their roster while building around their superstars.
One of those superstars, pass rusher Travon Walker, plays a pivotal role on the franchise’s defense and since being drafted first overall in 2022, has become a cornerstone player in Duval County. Off to a good start this season, Walker sustained a wrist injury in the win over the 49ers that forced him to undergo surgery– putting a halt to his early season success. But Coen spoke to the media on Thursday, Oct. 2 and provided a very positive update on Walker’s status for week five.
Walker Could Play in Week Five
Even though Walker had wrist surgery that raised the question about his availability for this week, Coen’s update on Thursday is very encouraging for the Jaguars in their quest for their first 4-1 start since 2007.
“He will be listed as day-to-day,” Coen said on Thursday morning.
Walker suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Jaguars win over the 49ers and did not return to the game. He underwent surgery on Monday, but there is a chance that he will suit up and play in week five against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football. Given how the Jaguars have an extra day of rest, Walker will take advantage of that and do everything he can to be ready to go. Assuming that he is not in too much pain and his wrist is protected with a cast, there is no reason to think that Walker cannot play.
Walker’s Career Thus Far
Walker put together a strong collegiate career at Georgia, helping the Bulldogs win the 2021 national title and leaving the school with 9.5 sacks in 36 games. After he was drafted by the Jaguars, Walker immediately took on a big role for the defense, finishing his rookie campaign with 3.5 sacks in 15 games played (14 starts). In his second season, Walker broke out– recording 10 sacks while playing and starting in all 17 games.
Last season, Walker once again played and started in all 17 games, increasing his sack total 10.5 while forcing a career high of two fumbles. Currently second on the Jaguars in sacks to begin 2025, Walker has continued his growth and is looking ready to lead the Jaguars’ defense in their quest to return to the playoffs.
