T
he Jacksonville Jaguars are enjoying a strong start to their 2025 campaign. Investing heavily in a brand new roster and personnel, the Jaguars are 6-4 and enjoying their best start to a season since 2023. In second place in the AFC South, the Jaguars are in prime position to make a late season playoff push.
And thanks to a good season from the offense, particularly quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars have been able to put together some strong performances and pull out big wins against tough teams. Led by new head coach Liam Coen, the 2025 Jaguars look like a team ready to compete for a deep postseason run. But even in the midst of all the success, Coen still wants to see more. Before the Jaguars’ week 11 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Lawrence and Coen met, with Coen saying he wanted Lawrence to play a little looser.
Coen’s Comments
Each week, Coen and Lawrence have a check-in, where they discuss various topics– from the past game, to the upcoming game and everything in between. In week 10, after the Jaguars blew a 19-point lead against the Houston Texans, Coen spoke to Lawrence and told him he wanted one thing from him for the rest of the season– cut it loose and play more relaxed. And the message sunk in for Lawrence, who helped the Jaguars offense put together arguably its best game of the season in week 11 in a 35-6 rout of the Chargers.
“Let’s go out and cut it loose for four quarters, as a team, and see what happens,” Coen said to the players. “Let’s just go cut it loose, man. I don’t want to think about what could happen, what should happen, what happened on the play before, what’s going to happen three plays from now. Just play in the moment, stay in the moment, pick each other up when something bad happens and let’s move on as a team.”
The Jaguars were down several key players against the Chargers, but still found a way to win in dominating fashion. If the Jaguars keep doing that, expect to see them make a deep run in the playoffs that they hope ends in a Super Bowl berth.
The Jaguars Dominance in Week 11
One of the more dominant victories in Jaguars franchise history, the team ran the ball 192 yards while holding the Chargers to only 135 total yards of offense– even leading to Justin Herbert to come out of the game early because of the score. The Jaguars also did something they have not done since week 2 of the 2010 season– play the whole game without needing to punt. After the game, Lawrence said a big key to the win was the team having fun when they played, something he acknowledged was much needed.
“It’s not about trying to convince yourself and all the rah-rah and hyping yourself up,” Lawrence said. “It’s about guys just knowing what they have to do, playing loose, playing free, playing confident. I think that’s something that we did today. Guys just excited to be out there.”
Bouncing back to get back into the win column, the Jaguars will hit the road in week 12 to face a depleted Arizona Cardinals team on Sunday, Nov. 23. Kickoff is set for 4:05 p.m. (EST) and will air on CBS in select markets.
