Jaguars’ Owner Shad Khan Has Seen This Movie Before

The Jacksonville Jaguars are off to a relatively surprising start to the 2025 NFL season. As someone that’s covered the team closely all offseason, I can tell you that no one was talking about the Jaguars getting off to a 4-2 start.

But, here they are and owner Shad Khan is very happy with the early results.

“Winning is awesome; winning is great,” Khan said, speaking to Jaguars Media on Saturday morning before Sunday’s London game against the Los Angeles Rams.

However, Khan also stressed that there is “a lot of football to play.”

Khan is in his 14th season of Jaguars’ ownership, so he knows a thing or two about losing seasons and picking really high in the draft.

Shad Khan is cautiously optimistic about his team’s good start

For teams like the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles, a 4-2 start is reason for the sky to start falling. For the Jaguars, it’s reason to start thinking about what kind of floats they want for the parade.

That said, Khan isn’t ready to start thinking about his favorite flavor of Boone’s Farm.

“Not too long ago, a couple of years ago, we were 8-3 then we know what happened,” Khan said, referring to the Jaguars’ hot start in 2023 that ended with no playoffs at 9-8. “There are many other precedents like that. nWe have to feel good. We have to be confident. [But] very important we don’t lose track of the next 11 games.

“Winning is fun. You win, you don’t want the week to be over. You lose, you want to just hit delete right now other than you want to learn from why you lost and the correction.

“So, winning is fabulous, but it’s like football: You have to play to the whistle and just don’t get tendinitis patting yourself on the back. We have to enjoy the moment, absolutely, but don’t get too happy and content with it.”

Shad Khan is excited about the new regime structure

This offseason, there was quite an overhaul within the Jaguars. Ownership brought in young general manager James Gladstone to manage the roster and Liam Coen to coach it. So far, he’s excited by what he sees.

“The results speak for themselves,” Khan said. “And I’m not just talking about wins and losses. How the team is connected – the transparency, the authenticity. This issue of alignment, transparency, communication, ‘everybody being on the same page’ … it’s not rocket science. Everyone talks about it and everybody wants to do it, but they’re not doing it. Here, the big difference is we’re doing it.”

Khan would love for this team to make a run, but he’s cautiously optimistic and ultimately wants to see the team on a good trajectory.

“Hopefully, we’re going to win, but if we’re not winning, we’re still doing it and then it takes on a different direction: ‘OK, what are we going to do to win? Why didn’t we win?,’” Khan said. “What’s also different is the structure we have before the game, after the game, during the week, what went right, what was the plan, what are we going to do, what are the midweek adjustments? This is in the heat of the season and a lot is really before the season.

“All of those things we’re talking about … you have to have those attributes.”
