Jamie Carragher is confident Liverpool will successfully capture both Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi before the transfer deadline on Monday evening.

Liverpool have spent the most money of any club in world football over the course of a busy summer transfer window, with Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni and Armin Pecsi all joining for a combined fee of around £340million.

But the Premier League champions are determined to further strengthen at both ends of the pitch while they still have the chance.

Isak informed Newcastle of his desire to move on from St James’ Park last month and the Reds wasted little time in making a £110million bid for the 25-year-old Swede, which was rejected out of hand by the Toon.

Liverpool are set to launch an improved £130m offer for Isak in the coming hours and the striker is expected to get his wish, with the Magpies having signed a replacement in Nick Woltemade.

Meanwhile, the Merseyside giants are also working to get a deal over the line for Crystal Palace and England centre-back Guehi, who is said to have his heart set on a proposed switch to Anfield.

It’s understood a bid in the region of £40m could be enough to convince Palace to part with their captain.

‘All the stewards have said that Isak’s coming! I think both of those deals will get done, I would imagine so,’ ex-Liverpool defender Carragher told Sky Sports ahead of the club’s heavyweight clash with Arsenal.

‘It looks like Liverpool put in a bid last night and they’re arguing or fighting over £5m which is probably peanuts now in this day and age.

‘With Newcastle getting one striker in, I’m sure they’re working today and tomorrow to get another one in and I’m sure they will.

‘I think it’s better for Newcastle that they get Isak in as well. He’s ruined their first three games of the season. I was doing the Newcastle game yesterday and they didn’t look like scoring a goal.

‘They’ve played really well as well in the first three games, not so much yesterday, but in the first two, and they deserve more points than they’ve probably got, but they haven’t got anyone up top.

‘Just get Isak out the club, get your money! Obviously, it looks like he’s going to come to Liverpool.’

Turning his attentions to footballing matters, Carragher argued that Liverpool enter Sunday’s crunch match with Arsenal as the ‘favourites’ to come out on top.

‘They’re at Anfield and Arsenal are without their best player, Bukayo Saka, so I would say Liverpool are the favourites,’ he added.

‘Arsenal are a massive threat and they’re a brilliant team, they have been for two or three years, but they just can’t get over the line and not just in the Premier League, in other competitions as well.

‘But Mikel Arteta has been backed once again in the summer market, as has Arne Slot for Liverpool.

‘But Liverpool bring money in as well whereas Arsenal don’t really do that so when you actually look at what the board have given Arteta in terms of expenditure over these last few years, they’ve gone big on him and they’re probably looking for some return this season.’

On Arteta, Carragher continued: ‘He’s done a wonderful job and there’s competition in the Premier League.

‘You’re up against Pep Guardiola at Manchester City over the last few years and they’ve just edged them.

‘It’s tough against one of the greatest managers of all time and the season when City dropped off, Arsenal had a little drop off and Liverpool just snuck in there really.

‘I think there will be more eyes on Arsenal this season, probably, than Manchester City and Liverpool because those two clubs have won Premier League titles.’
