Friday’s night session on Arthur Ashe Stadium Court will see world No. 1 Jannik Sinner collide with streaking Canadian standout Felix Auger-Aliassime.
After withdrawing from his Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz late last month, Sinner has been on a tear in New York, dropping just one set throughout his first five matches while picking up incredibly dominant wins over notable hard court standouts such as Alexei Popyrin & Alexander Bublik.
As Sinner looks to go back-to-back in Flushing Meadows, the Italian star will collide with an in-form Felix Auger-Aliassime, who has continued to upset top-ranked players over the past two weeks.
After skating past Billy Harris and Roman Safiullin in the first two rounds, FAA then stunned world No. 3 Alexander Zverev in the third round, world No. 15 Andrey Rublev in the fourth round, and world No. 8 Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals.
Now, Auger-Aliassime will face his toughest test yet as he looks to move one step closer to his first US Open final.
Sinner vs. Auger-Aliassime H2H
Heading into Friday’s semifinal showdown, Felix Auger-Aliassime leads the head-to-head against Jannik Sinner 2-1.
The 25-year-old Canadian standout picked up a straight-set win over Sinner at the 2022 Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid, before then beating Sinner in three sets at the Cincinnati Open later in the 2022 season.
This season, however, when the two faced off in the quarterfinal of the Cincinnati Open last month, Sinner was able to pick up a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win
As FAA looks to shock the world and upset the defending champion, he spoke about the possibility of facing the world No. 1 in the semifinals prior to Sinner’s match with Musetti on Wednesday night.
As he explained to members of the press, he’s focusing on himself:
“I mean, what to say about Jannik’s game. He’s been obviously untouchable at times but the next match, I’m not really going to focus on my opponent more than myself. I need to play good tennis. I need to play even better than I did today, regardless of tactically what I want to do. I need to play at a high level in two days.”
