Jaxson Dart Sends Giants Warning After Defeat to Eagles

He’s now lost more games than he’s won as starter, so Jaxson Dart sent a warning to the New York Giants after the team slipped to a 38-20 defeat against NFC East rivals the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8.

Dart made clear won’t he won’t tolerate as starting quarterback, and what he expects the Giants not to accept, when he spoke to reporters after the game at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, October 26. The first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft told the press, including Dan Duggan of The Athletic, “We’ve got to start figuring out ways to win because I hate (losing). I’m not used to it. I’m not just going to accept it. I’m not going to be OK with it. We as a team can’t be OK with it. We’ve got to figure this out.”

Those are bold words from a rookie with just five starts to his credit, but Dart knows he needs to change the mindset of the Giants. Specifically, by convincing a team used to losing to demand better.

Jaxson Dart Wants Mentality Reset

One way to alter expectations for Big Blue would be to hold onto the disappointment Dart felt after being worked over by the Eagles. He told Duggan, “I thought they did a lot more things better than we did in a lot of areas. I don’t like the feeling of — I felt they really kind of dominated most of the game. It’s an embarrassing feeling. That’s just kind of how I feel. It’s frustrating because I felt confident coming into this game. Obviously extra motivated because of how things happened last week. I really didn’t want one (loss) to lead to another. Disappointed we lost.”

Dart’s reference to Week 7’s heartbreaking 33-32 loss to the Denver Broncos is significant. Bad teams find ways to lose, just like the Giants did at Mile High, but another sign of a losing outfit is not being able to bounce back quickly from disappointments.

The Giants couldn’t find solutions in Philadelphia, and Dart wasn’t able to show the promise that’s defined most of his brief tenure as QB1. Instead, he threw for under 200 yards and averaged a mere 2.8 yards running the ball, per ESPN.

Dart wasn’t helped by a struggling running game that lost its chief source of energy and intensity.

Giants Couldn’t Support Jaxson Dart on the Ground

Losing fellow rookie Cam Skattebo to a gruesome ankle injury in the second quarter, took away the brute-force weapon Dart needed to keep the Eagles honest. Skattebo had already caught a touchdown pass, but this year’s dynamic fourth-round pick will now “undergo surgery tonight at a local hospital in the Philadelphia area,” according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Not having Skattebo challenge the Eagles between the tackles took the oomph out of the Giants’ rushing attack. It meant too little of the right support for Dart, who was already hamstrung by throwing to a group of wide receivers missing injured star turn Malik Nabers.

The Giants tried to get backs and tight ends more involved in the passing game, but there was nothing to scare the Eagles. It’s to Dart’s credit he still managed to account for both of the Giants’ touchdowns, running two yards into the end zone when the game was already out of sight in the fourth quarter.

Dart is a true playmaker, but he needs better help from both personnel and play-calling if he’s going to elevate standards and get the Giants used to winning.
