It was as bad as possible for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8 against the Denver Broncos. With an opportunity to show everybody around the NFL that the Cowboys were a serious organization and perhaps one of the better teams in the NFC, they completely failed on all fronts. Dak Prescott likely took himself out of MVP conversations, the defense was once again one of the worst we’ve seen, and the Cowboys were simply embarrassed from top to bottom.
Speaking after the game, and perhaps he’s the one to blame, owner Jerry Jones admitted that he’s not happy, and while he must say that, it’s also crucial for Jones to understand that he’s the only one who could fix this.
âI am not happy at all with winning three ball games. At all,â Jones said, per PFT. âCan we play better? Of course we can play better.â
Will the Cowboys Make a Trade or Stand Pat at the Deadline?
When speaking about the upcoming trade deadline on Nov. 4, Jones admitted that he has to factor in a few different things for the Dallas Cowboys.Â
He doesn’t think trading for a player on Sunday wouldâve helped his team play better, as they were embarrassed. Had the Cowboys maybe had a few defensive players on their side, things mightâve been different, but the truth is that they were brutal, and not many players wouldâve helped them on Sunday.
âIf I saw a proposition for us to help this team, no matter what this score was today, then I would look at it on the merits of helping this team. And if youâre talking about trading for a player or trading a player, I would completely look at it on the merits of the team, both for next week or the weeks after or for the longer term,â Jones said. âToday would not affect a decision on trading for a player.â
Can the Cowboys Improve Their Defense?
Regarding what a trade could look like, the Dallas Cowboys understand that if they were to make a move, it would have to be on the defensive side of the football.Â
Jones has been on record saying he wants to go out and make a move, but he doesn’t know whether itâs only one player who would get them better. It’ll be interesting to see if he has a few moves up his sleeve, but if the Cowboys can’t figure things out in the next few weeks, it might be a better idea to let this season run its course and go from there.Â
“I don’t know what’s realistic,” Jones said. “Could one better player — if we didn’t pay too big a price to have a better player on defense to possibly help? I’m not trying to be cute, but that’s why you’d go get him because you think that you could go help your defense. Are we one player away on defense? I think we’re not. I think we’re more than that away, but what we’re closer to than it looks, in my mind, is executing better on defense.”
