Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys is not exactly one to mince his words, especially now in his older and – theoretically – wiser years.
However, during a press conference with him and new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, to mark the start of training camp, he had some fairly stark words to level at edge rusher, Micah Parsons.
#Cowboys owner Jerry Jones randomly takes a shot at Micah Parsons, saying even if they sign him, it doesnât mean theyâll have him, because he was hurt for 6 games last year (fact check: he only missed 4).
He then also says they made Dak Prescott the richest player in football â⦠pic.twitter.com/g6T8FnEEOX

Cowboys Owner Makes Snide Remark About Micah Parsons Amidst Negotiations
There is very little this comment would achieve, one can feasibly argue, except cause irritation to Parsons and his team.
Not least because the former Penn State star only missed four games in 2024, not the six mentioned by the elder Jones.
Jones clearly understands the fallacy of his words; no contracts are assurances either on availability or quality, hence why oft-injured players often receive one-year “prove it” deals. But to antagonize the one man who may be the key to the Cowboys’ future – especially on defense – is one of the most counter-intuitive moves possible for Dallas’ longtime owner.
There could well be some other move in play with these comments for the 3 x Super Bowl winner, but if there is, it is not clear and obvious to the public.
What Does Parsons’ Future Look Like With The Organization?
Micah Parsons’ status on team post 2025 has been a big offseason talking point for the both the media and the Jones family alike. Jerry – always one to stay in the headlines – has once again extended contract negotiations with the 3 x All-Pro far beyond what one would imagine they should have taken.
And in the light of a flurry of offseason deals coming in for the likes of Maxx Crosby and former Defensive Player of the Year winners, Myles Garrett and TJ Watt; all of whom received record-breaking deals at their respective times of signing; the number on Parsons’ wish list will no doubt just be going up and up.
If the former Defensive Rookie of the Year is to become the highest paid player at his position – something that will also make him the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history – his deal will have to exceed the 3 year, $123 million deal given to Watt last week, which averages out to $41 million per year.
Perhaps even more deadly for the Dallas ownership, $108 of the $123 million – i.e. all but $15 million of the contract was fully guaranteed. That means that it is certainly not out of the question; particularly given Parsons’ comparative youth (he turned 26 in May, whilst Watt will be 31 in October); that the All-Pro’s agent could ask for fully guaranteed contract.
This is all just speculation, and it does not seem that the two sides are nearing a deal any time soon, but if there was not animosity between the pair before this (which there almost certainly was) – there definitely is now.
