The New York Jets have made another roster transaction.
Gang Green announced on social media that they “claimed” defensive back Mario Goodrich off waivers. In a corresponding move, the team “waived/injured” defensive back Jaylin Simpson.

Additionally, we have waived/injured DB Jaylin Simpson.

The Jets were awarded Goodrich on waivers from the Denver Broncos. During the offseason, the waiver wire priority order mirrors the 2025 NFL draft order. So the Jets hold the No. 7 waiver wire priority for the rest of the offseason. When the regular season gets here, the waiver wire order is determined by the reverse order of the current standings on a week-to-week basis.
The 4-1-1 on the Jets’ Newest Addition
Goodrich, 25, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
He spent the first two seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Goodrich didn’t make the 53-man roster, instead spending the majority of his time on the practice squad.
During the 2023 season, Goodrich appeared in four games for the Eagles, including one start. That is the only time he has spent on the field in the NFL to date.
In 2024, he spent training camp with the New York Giants, but didn’t make the final 53-man roster.
Earlier this calendar year, Goodrich joined the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League.
Most recently, he spent a month and a half on the Broncos roster. He was waived by the team on August 1 and was subject to the waiver system.
The End of the Road…
Gang Green held their annual green-and-white scrimmage on Saturday, August 2.
There were several injuries. One of them was Simpson, who hurt his hamstring, head coach Aaron Glenn revealed during his media availability. He informed the media that he would learn more about the injuries later in the day.
The injury must have been serious enough for the Jets, as they swapped out defensive backs with these roster moves.
Simpson, 25, first joined the Jets in December of 2024. He joined their practice squad for the final month of last season. Then signed a reserve/future contract with the team in January.
Other Injury Notes From the Jets Scrimmage
“Injury update: Xavier Gipson (shoulder), Kris Boyd (shoulder), Jaylin Simpson (hamstring). Braelon Allen (knee) a limited number of reps as a precaution,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed on social media.

Boyd was carted off and was in visible pain as the Jets’ medical staff tended to his injury on Saturday, August 2.
Something to Monitor at Jets Camp
Braelon Allen has missed time in camp for what head coach Aaron Glenn described as general “knee soreness.”
He has missed a handful of practices, but saw limited action during the scrimmage. Certainly progress from not participating at all.
Allen is expected to be a key cog in the Jets’ rushing attack in 2025. There are still five weeks until the Jets kick off their season in Week 1. So time is on their side, but this is something to watch over the coming weeks.
