The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, November 4.
Max Dible of Heavy Sports predicted that a big deal will go down before the clock strikes midnight.
New York Jets receive: a 2026 third-round pick
Kansas City Chiefs receive: defensive lineman Jermaine Johnson
“The Jets are 1-7 and primed to sell ahead of the deadline. Johnson is under contract for another year and a half and is a former first-round pick. He battled injury in 2024, which cost him all but two games. He hasn’t had a particularly strong bounce-back season, but he tallied 7.5 sacks in a Pro-Bowl campaign in 2023. The Chiefs could use more pocket disruption, particularly off the edge, and Johnson is worth the swing at just 26 years old,” Dible explained.
Johnson has 11 sacks, 23 quarterback hits, and 16 tackles for loss in his NFL career to date.
Insider Explains the Jets’ Advantage in the Trade Market
The trade market, like anything in life, is about supply and demand. In 2025, the supply of pass rushers is in short supply, but the demand is higher than ever.
NFL Insider Matt Lombardo told me on “Boy Green Daily” that puts the Jets in a unique position.
“A lot of teams are always looking for pass rushers, but there are also a handful of contending teams that could be a pass rusher away from winning a Super Bowl this year. In a lot of ways, I really think the Jets control the pass rusher market going into Tuesday,” Lombardo explained.
“If we don’t know what the Cincinnati Bengals are doing with Trey Hendrickson. Hendrickson is a little bit banged up, and that adds another layer to that conversation, but if Trey Hendrickson is staying put, then Jermaine Johnson becomes the prize of that market. When you have three or four contending teams, not to mention a slew of others, and there is a short supply, the Jets can really spark a bidding war,” Lombardo added.
“If we are talking about the edge rusher market … the Jets are in the catbird seat in my opinion because they have one of the best young and upcoming rushers at the position.”
NFL Insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated said there have been trade conversations around multiple Jets pass rushers: Micheal Clemons, Jermaine Johnson, and Will McDonald.
Insider Lists Top Teams Interested in Pass Rushers
Lombardo mentioned several NFL teams that are expected to be seeking a pass rusher at the deadline. That list included the San Francisco 49ers, the Detroit Lions, and the Philadelphia Eagles. Plus, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills are expected to be in the mix.
Johnson Appears Confused by the Consistent Jets Trade Chatter
Trade rumors have been flying around Johnson throughout the season. The front office provided “clarity” to some of that noise to Johnson in a private conversation.
Johnson was led to believe he wouldn’t be traded based on that chat with the team brass.
However, rumors have only gotten louder on social media. That led Johnson to react to all of the noise by posting a Kenan Thompson confused GIF.
The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, November 4, at 4 pm.
