Jets Expected to Have Fire Sale Ahead of NFL Trade Deadline: Insider

The New York Jets appear ready to be big sellers at the 2025 NFL trade deadline.

An anonymous NFL executive told Insider Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports that the Jets “are loaded with too many of (ex-general manager) Joe Douglas’ players. (New general manager Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn) are going to want to purge that organization and rebuild it with their guys. They look like a mess right now, so I think they’d be open to trading almost anybody.”

The 2025 NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday, November 4, at 4 pm.

The Top Candidates to Keep an Eye out For

Any player who is on an expiring deal is worth discussing. You’d rather get a guaranteed asset for a player as opposed to potentially losing them for nothing.

For example, this offseason, veteran cornerback D.J. Reed left the Jets in free agency and signed a monster three-year $48 million contract with the Detroit Lions. That was the largest deal any ex-Jets player inked on the open market.

What did the Jets get for him? Nothing.

The compensatory pick formula factors in a lot of variables, including how much money the Jets spent versus who left them and for how much moolah.

Over The Cap revealed that the Jets‘ signing of quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year $40 million deal canceled out the Reed exit. That would have netted the Jets a fourth-round draft choice.

NFL Insider Dianna Russini revealed last year that the Washington Commanders called the Jets ahead of the trade deadline about Reed’s availability, and the Jets rejected them.

The green and white have to learn from their past mistakes.

Running Back Breece Hall

Breece Hall is seventh in the NFL in rushing yards this season (351), per ESPN. He is averaging 5.3 yards per carry. The talented tailback has been one of the Jets‘ best players so far.

He is in the last year of his rookie contract. The Jets need to have an honest conversation in their building. Do they plan on re-signing him either during this season or in the offseason? If so, then you find a way to keep him. If not, they should send him off to the highest bidder.

NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY recently said on “Jets Final Drive” that he believes the Jets can “absolutely” get a third-round pick for Hall based on how he has played this year.

Linebacker Quincy Williams

Quincy Williams is currently on injured reserve, but he is expected to come off it before this year’s NFL trade deadline.

The Jets already paid Jamien Sherwood; would they also pay Williams? Especially considering he is 29 and will turn 30 before the start of the 2026 season.

The talented linebacker is a former All-Pro, and the right contender could be willing to throw a late-day two or early-day three pick to acquire the veteran.

Defensive Tackle Quinnen Williams

Quinnen Williams is the big kahuna. He could command the biggest return of any player on the Jets roster that could realistically be moved.

He is one of the elected team captains, the second-longest tenured player on the team, and is the straw that stirs the drink for the Jets.

Williams has been playing well this season, but he is only one guy. The rest of the defense has struggled mightily. How much worse could it get shipping off Williams?

This would bring back a future first and more for the green and white. Williams only has $5 million in future guarantees beyond this season left on his contract. Hughes said the big man from Alabama is seeking a contract adjustment.

The Jets need to decide if they’re going to pay him again or ship him off for a monster haul to accelerate their rebuild.
